hey hows it going, i have a 1995 glt, no mods , non turbo, with about 168K miles on it... i have been getting bad mpgs for the past week, i have recently changed tired but that wouldnt effect it that much, i barely make 230 miles on a tank i usually make like 300 sometimes more on a tank.. I had changed the plugs like a year and half ago, do you guys think it might be just a bad tune up? oh and it has no codes

just a question is there any way to truely diagnose a porr mpg symptom? i've read JBvolvo's threads and it seems like its pretty much replace various parts until the milage jumps back up

second question he doesnt need to replace the rear o2 right? because it doesn't effect the Air fuel ratios does it?

um... no, the o2 sensors are a major factor in determining AFR's. The o2 sensor measures what if any air is left in the exhaust, this combined with the reading from the MAF determines the AFR. Also the since the fuel injection sequence is the variable that the ECU uses to keep the AFR's in check. In other words, if the o2 sensor is saying there is a lot of air, then the ECU sends more fuel.

Also dont forget new 02 sensors. That is probably your main problem.

I think he would get a code if it was the O2 sensors.

Another thing you might want to take a look at is that MAF sensor.

i know the o2 before the cat helps regulate the AFR but i thought the one after just told the ecu how effiecent the cat was working and didnt effect the AFR? am i completely wrong about that?
