1999 V70 With Rough Idle When Stopping

Hi all,

My girlfriend just bought a non turbo, automatic transmission, 1999 V70 with 80k and I’ve got a couple problems that have me stumped (I just posted one and here is the other). When stopping (between 3 and 10mph) the idle gets pulled down for a moment and then rebounds before it stall. It is as if it was a standard that gets left in gear too long as you come to a stop. The last owner had it into a dealer who did a break job that didn’t change the problem. I’m thinking there might be a sensor associated with the transfer case but I’m obviously just guessing.

Have you had the ETM recall done? If not, call your local dealer and find out eligibilty.

It sounds like you have a dirty ETM. Even if the dealer has done the software upgrade, they are still required to diagnose, clean or replace the throttle body if necessary.

So what you guys are saying; the dealer shouldn't be charging for the diagnostics or the cleaning?

Well no....Actually the technicial term is a campain not a recall. I believe the way it works is you get the software and still no fix you get the cleaning then still no fix the dealer contacts Volvo for an approval for replacement of the ETM. However if the fauylt lies in the ETM it is my understanding that there is no charge for the diagonstic. I'm not a dealer tech though.

This campain is for 10yr or 200,000miles from the selling date of the vehicle I believe.

I know what you're saying. When I brought my car in they charged me $80 to tell me that I had a bad MAF and bad ABS module. I replaced both of those on my own but my car's still doing the same thing (stalling and limp mode). I'll make another appointment and push for a new ETM. Thanks, MrWinkey
