Fudge_Brownie
Other thing is is that i spun a rod bearing (unheard of in these cars)This thread has three examples of engines with spun bearings.

Zulu
I'm just excited for the engine swap. Are you doing the assembly on it T5M?
Account_Deleted_T5M
I'm just excited for the engine swap. Are you doing the assembly on it T5M?Lol nice quip... I'm not building the engine thats going in the car, the whole assembly is getting extruded and built by a performance shop that's done performance work on volvo's before. They'll build everything to spec, Plus they'll give a year warranty on the work done which i'm a big fan of. The engine that is coming out of the car, i am going to see the condition of the motor, and rebuild it myself, just to have a spare motor sitting around, and also for the learning experience, so i'll have two new motors. They tuning it too?But I'm gonna assume you mean P&P on the head and manifolds, by spec I assume you mean full bottom end build, hot tank, head refresh, cams?, they making you a exhaust manifold?, EMS, whose tuning? I'd love to see this warranty though...

They tuning it too?Warranty is on work THEY DO, if a failure happens because they forgot to torque a bolt correctly etc.... extruding is a type of clay that is forced through the intake manifold, engine and exhaust manifold, it ports everything and matches everything up. Tuning is gonna be a standalone, and either EPL or Philly Dyno works is going to be custom tuning it.

The reason for extrude honing is because with manifolds you cannot reach inside the runners to port them unless you cut the manifold in half, this is just a solution to that problem, not to porting as a whole. JHEIII874T5M
Just flow bench it... no need to waste time guessing or assuming.
Che'_Moderator
I extrude polish everything on the head even the intake side. Exhaust manifold and turbo get it to. Intake manifold only gets port matched. But you will get way more flow from say a radius valve job than extrude polishing. Then again what do I know. Its not like I have been arguing this for 10 years now with flow specs to back it up or anything. Warranty for if a bolt torqued wrong is funny. Once you have more than 100 miles on that engine they will blame any damage on a piss poor tune.
laird
Mike i also had thought that i bent a rod in my s70.... sound got louder under the oil pan, and definately a knock metal on metal. Well periodically it goes away (usually when i start it in the morning) now i was thinking that it could be because the oil is thick and helping quiet the noise. Other thing is is that i spun a rod bearing (unheard of in these cars) I AM running a ST, which alot of people will say is stupid, but since the tune runs really rich you would think that it would help prevent any chance of bending a rod. THoughts? If the rod bends laterally, the small end hits the counterweights. Over time, the small end gets worn off and the noise may diminish or go away completely.
