My sixth Volvo to date...

1967 1800S

79k original Socal miles - I'm the third owner (first a Volvo indy mechanic who owned it until he passed, then a VSA collector)

98% rust free

Rebuilt B20 (by the best vintage Volvo shop in Socal)

M41 4-speed + OD

16" Torq Thrusts (early Volvo's share a bolt pattern with 60's Fords)

IPD sway bars

IPD front spoiler

I love driving around in this thing. A totally different experience than the T5M, but such a blast!

That is truly gorgeous... What carbs, cam, head, etc? Any headwork done? There's a ton you can do to liven up the old OHV engines :)

The motor was pretty much built to stock B20 specs (the car originally had a B18), except for hardened valve seats--to run unleaded. Still running the SU carbs (I've got a lot to learn about those bad boys). It's much more powerful overall I expected. --3rd gear has a real nice pull to it.

One pic, come on John, give us more!

Where is the 2% of rust ? Is it easily accessible ? I'd love to have a nice classic like this one with virtually no rust! Nice find.

I'll get more pics eventually.

As for the rust, I still need to hunt around and see if I can find it all. There's a bit in the front fender liners, and probably some in the headlight buckets (there almost always is). The floors look perfect from the bottom, but I want to pull up the carpet and see if I need to POR over anything. The real good news is that the rockers appear to be 100% rust-free--that's where these cars usually get it the worst. My goal at this point is just to prevent whatever is there from spreading. It's not like we have snow or salt here, and I don't even plan on driving it in the rain (all 10 days of it we get here each year).

BTW, I paid pretty much exactly what my insurance paid me for the V70 ($9k), plus tax. But these things don't depreciate anymore, they only appreciate B)
