Front Suspension Noises

Hey all, need some advice. First of all 99 C70hpt auto with about 87000mi on it. I bought it with 39k. I know that it has Koni Yellow sport shocks/struts but I don't know which springs other than they're blue. I'm getting a clunking noise when I accel, mainly around 20-40 mph. Last oil change I had in July (at Auto Assets, Powell, OH) said that the control arms were bad and possibly endlinks. I'm sure that these suspension parts are probably dead by now. Handling hasn't really been compromised however. One other thing that I notice recently, is when I leave for work in the morning (cold car obviously) the steering wheel shudders in 2nd gear. Questions I have for you guys:

1. I'm thinking of replacing via IPD: Springs, Shocks, Struts, endlinks, Strut mounts, Spring seats, bump stop pins, IPD sway bar and control arms.

2. Is IPD the best deal because I still have to pay for labor to install this stuff?

3. Am I going overboard by replacing springs and shocks/struts and should I just focus on the endlinks and control arms?

4. Everyone says that IPD's sway bar kit is the shiat, is it ABSOLUTELY necessary?

These are very important questions because I know that I'm getting into roughly a $2000 project at least, (including oil change and fuel filter). Can anyone supply me with links or codes for discounts on all this crap. Better yet, can someone just overnight this under my Christmas tree??

Your advice and help is greatly appreciated as always and HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!

If your control arms and end links are bad, why are you changing your springs and shocks? Unless you know they are bad, I would just leave them. You don't really have enough miles on the car for them to that bad.

What do you want to do with the car? Nothing is necessary over stock parts, but it will handle better with the bars.

ill try to help because i have roughly the same cas as you and i just had my suspension upgraded...

if you have the money and want your coupe to really handle different... spend it! (carefully) if the aftermarket parts you have arent broken dont fix them!

the first trick is to find a shop that will install your own parts AND has a volvo clue. my volvo dealer did mine.

ipd isnt the best deal... sorry guys. look on ebay for eibach springs - motorsports direct. email anthony and he will get you a deal on the springs (remind him not to send lexus springs because they dont fit volvo)

ebay also has a deal on the hd shocks $429? fcp groton on the rest of your parts.

ipd is the place for the sways and its worth it. the trick is to get a sale price on them. i want to get a set for my coupe. i have them on my wagon and they are worth it.

get the strut brace too, ipd.

id fix the stuff that is broken first and get it running right. then start gathering all the upgrade parts and when you have it all together take it in for the "alteration"

then you can go after your brakes next... and then the engine...

bring your money (and patience)

damn, it's easy to figure out exactly where the noise is coming from, no need to replace parts until you figure it out.

First check the spring seats, put a 21mm wrench on the nut on top of the stut and turn it. If you can turn it more than 90 deg the spring seat is bad. If you start to turn it and get resistance, stop applying pressure, the spring seat is ok.

To check endlinks, jack the car up and grab the swaybar from the bottom on both sides and pull down. If you feel any sort click or notchy type feeling, you have bad swaybar links.

To check ball joints, while the car is jacked up, put a prybar between the A arm and and the hub and apply pressure. If there is play, the balljoint is bad.

Now if you want to replace all that stuff w/ IPD items, I think you will be quite pleased, but if your concerned about your budget you may want to isolate the issue down the specific defective components so you don't have to spend more $$ than necessary.
