"brake" Light On Dash Came Today

The light on the dash that says "Brake(s)" (not parking brake light) on it came on when I started the car up today. It has been the coldest day of the year I think, 9F according to weather, last night. I also drove over some salted roads and the stuff got all over my car. I'm wondering if maybe some of the salt got in the caliper piston or something and seized one of them. Does anyone know what will cause the light to come on? I had to drive the car about 10 minutes home and it seemed okay, but I want to get this fixed as I have to head back up to university this weekend.

FCP Groton has rebuilt calipers for 65 bucks, or I can order kits for 22 + 16 for slide pins and seals. I'd like some input on the best course of action on this. Also note I don't have a garage because my dad's car is up off of all 4's with the front axles off so I have to work outside in <20 degree F Weather.

PS Brakes still seem good when driving.

I had that happen to me when it started getting cold, and didn't really know what it was. It usually just needs a top-up of the brake fluid. Check the level and make sure it is topped up. Start with that, and hopefully that will solve it. ;) It did for me.

If your brake fluid was that low that it triggered the light you either have a leak(doubt it) or you need brake pads(possibly all around) as all your fluid is in the calipers and not the master.

Just a thought

Yup, adding fluid for the win, I fricken thought of it about 2 minutes after I made this post, checked it when you replied and it was a little low.

Cheap fixes FTW, ain't it right? :D
