Headlight Wiring Burnt Up

Recommended Posts

I have a95 850 glt wagon and I went to replace the burnt out low beam bulb and the whole plug in was charred and burnt up on the pass front low beam, I went to check the drivers side and it too is browned like it got overheated and is burning. What might the problem be? I did have aftermarket blue headlight bulbs in them for almost a year now and have never had an issue with it. How hard is it to replace the plug-ins and the wires???? PLEASE help ASAP

correction, you just had your first issue. They were probably high wattage bulbs and burned the crap out of your harness. Im not sure how bad the problem is, you will have to trace the wires back to find out. Next time spend the extra money and get HIDs, cause now your gonna be spending the same amount, and you dont even have a set of headlight bulbs to put in (ps, I wouldnt put those bulbs back)

So where does the harness disconnect from the headlight plug ins? FUK I'm pissed off, nothing but problems with this car. I just replaced the motor on it and now the radiator fan stopped working and overheated and now the headlights are an issue. Time to get rid of these old jerk cars and get a new one. Thank god I work for AUDI cuz thats the way I'm going next time...

It doesn't. It is a cut and splice job. If your connectors overheated then chances are your headlamp bulb contacts have overheated and carbonized as well. If you replace just the plug and it will just overheat and burn the connector out again. Replace both the connector and the bulb and everything should be good.

From a former Audi owner and a current Porsche owner - That is just jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

:D
