My Lame Build Thread

About a month ago I got this moose as a daily driver since driving the 240sx on a daily basis sucked, especially in the 9 month wet season we get here in Olympia(80% annual average humidity).

The wagon is pretty straight, needs new ATF, one small scrape on rear passenger wheel arch lip, heated seats don't heat (recall item on 96s?), one ding in the windshield, needs new headlights/lenses (time for E-codes!), and owned by a local guy who knew nothing about cars but had it serviced regularly at volvo :meh:. It has about 115-120k miles on it (broken odometer). Turbo. Blah blah blah.

Anyhow, this is mostly just bolt on stuff that I'm sure most people have seen before, but its a good excuse to post pictures and feel good about myself...

I ordered this stuff from IPD (cellphone doesn't like the dark):

Mann oil filters.

-Bosch platinum plugs. Cheap, but made a big difference in how smooth the car ran and how well it pulled from all RPMs.

-K&N drop in air filter - better response, not a lot but noticeable.

-coolant temp sensor, putting it in tomorrow.

-Polyurethane Upper engine mount bushing - stock one was totally monkeyed (bushing sleeve was no longer connected to the inner bolt mount), now theres a little bit more vibration in the cabin at startup but the car is much more stable, etc. under hard acceleration.

-New(to me) rad fan from NVS70T5 (thanks!) Old one was making noise, this one doesn't.

Also, I picked up some 850R springs locally from a dude on CL that I haven't put on yet. Nothing extreme but I figure its a good middle ground for a decent performing daily driver thats still comfortable.

In the mail right now are:

-IPD Front strut tower bar from my_name_is

-MSD blaster ignition coil (ebay)

-Polyurethane transmission mount/bushings

-New timing belt + Serpentine/accessory belt

-Rear cross brace

Also, need to flush the ATF since it doesn't look like its been changed in too long.

Thats all for now, but once I get all of this stuff on and save up a bit more I will start looking for a new turbo(16t maybe?) and have a friend make a 3" downpipe and some intercooler piping and then if I end up selling some of the wheels I have lying around for my 240, a reflash.

I'll update with a few new pics once I get the rest of this stuff on in the coming week.

I'll do my best to make it to Issaquah. I look forward to meeting all of the local guys.

Thanks for the info about the plugs. I'll do that when I get the chance.

Why are copper plugs better than platinum ones for turbo cars?

Here are a few pics of my 240. Its got a pignose on it, but its a 91. Not the cleanest of cars, but its fun to drive.

Ok, platinum it is... :)

As far as the 240 goes, its not that low. When I had 16s on it I scraped frame everywhere and centerbalanced a few times even with a 2way lsd.

The car isn't all that fast but has about every suspension piece you can find for a s-chassis. Beyond that, i has minor bolt ons engine-wise, good clutch, eprom tune, totally stripped out, 4 point cage/roll bar, cfrp race seat, 2way lsd, and quite a few other things. The TE37s are probably my favorite things on the car.

I can make a complete list of everything if you like, but thats the gist of it.

Nice S13. Good friend of mine has a S14 Zenki. I love the car, but can't afford a pig nose atm. I love the look of the cars.

Good luck with the 850. I'm running coppers in my car at the moment. For stock, plats are fine.

Thanks.

Today I got a new to me strut bar in the mail thanks to my_name_is. Was a steal and a half. Even with the car on stock suspension I can feel a difference in turn in and stability and stuff so I'm happy.
