Radiator Fan Question

Recommended Posts

I changed the radiator in my car in the fall and with the onset of cold weather I noticed that it wasn't making it up to temp like it did in the summer. That leads me to believe it's the thermostat stuck open.

Anyway...

Today we had some warmth in New York for the first time in a long time and it's the first I've seen my temp gauge get to the 'normal' 3 o'clock position. It even went a tad above. I noticed that my radiator fan didn't kick on and I wondered if it should have.

Here's my question, how can you tell if your radiator fan is working, how do you MAKE it run? I've read a few posts about relays going bad. As I'm getting ready to change the T-stat I'm wondering what else I should be checking.

Thanks!

Turning on the AC usually do the trick (when it's really cold however, even that did not turn on my fan).

If you're doing the t-stat, consider replacing the CTS under the t-stat housing unless you're sure it's been replaced recently. Bad CTS can be the issue of the fan not turning on. I suggest you get the new/improved t-stat housing bolts from the dealer as well (part #986228).

EDIT: You can jump the fan to make sure both speed are working.

Also PM'ed you for some offer
