01, Xc-70, Front Pass Door Control Module

So the module is shot = door lock, window and mirror do not function. Started as a clicking in the door and nothing would work then the click would stop and all was fine. Found out here the control module is bad. Priced the module $240 list, $170 my cost (shop to shop). Here's the kicker the parts Tech tells me there's software required to make it work to the tune of $24 and the install is $100  He said I could install the module then bring in for the software install.

Is this absolutly required? Any one having this experience? And, is the Tech correct that I can install and drive in (without damaging $170 module) to be programmed?

And best question . . .is there anyone in the Levittown, PA area that might have this blasted software and whatever device required to install it?

Talk about friggin ridiculous ! ! ! ! !

Thanks,

Joe Mc

I looked into the program but I'm not spending 3k /quarter for their over priced program. All the other euro manu. don't charge 1/2 of what they want to be in the program? What will eventually happen if they don't get their heads outta their hind ends is they won't be able to sell cars anymore?????

Mr. Winkey - I emphatically agree!!! I was reading a consumer report the other day recalling a comment made about a Volvo they were reviewing (for get which model) which stated, WTE, "Volvo builds a safe automobile with excellent fit and finish. However, the ride of some models is a bit harsh, passenger compartments are more cramped and overall plagued with reliability issues compared to the older models. If Volvo expects to continue selling new vehicles they need to figure out and correct the reliability issues before they loose long-time customers to a more reliable automobile company". I think they even sarcastically commented "Hello Volvo, are you listening???". I agree . . .

BA-DA-BING!!!! Although my wife and I absolutly love this car, unfortunately, this will probably be the last Volvo we purchase until they work things out. We so looked forward to being at the point in our life that we could purchase a "quality, luxury, SAFE" car, I doubt it being used upon purchase (46,464 miles - Volvo Cetrified Pre-Owned = not very much wrong with it so they will "Sell an extended warranty" hmmmm, more $$$$). This decision, to not purchase another Volvo, is mainly due to some of the recent service issues, which I feel an automible of this "quality" should never have with the minimal 80k miles on the odometer. These issues are as follows: leaky right front half shaft and angle gear inner & outer seal leak - how come left side has no problem? hmmmmm? (stumbled thru R & R in my driveway - no manual of course), leaky power steering reservoir - I think the lower hose connecting tube is cracked??? (need to purchase new - wonder if it needs to be programmed as well?), air leak and rattle @ moon roof (@ 48k, I had to battle with the dealer to cover under warranty, they succumbed only after I wrote a lengthy email to corporate customer service of the Volvo, NA web page, complaining about purchase of extended warranty and not getting any documentation until after purchase of warranty etc., etc. they basically told the dealership to handle and shut this guy up - squeeky wheel I guess - they wanted $900 for repair kit and I foget the labor like 4 hours?), upper rear motor mount rubber insert failure (@ about 62k, replaced with aftermarket Poly unit for less than 1/4 price of new POS factory unit) and the failure of the pass side window "control" module (insane pricing for: plastic box containing electric gizmos + software + installation = pissed off customer) all this is complicated by the lack of being able to purchase a "Real Service Manual" as nothing is availabile till the vehicle is over 10 years old if we're lucky that it lasts that long . . . (other than the expensive VADIS CD), , which means (at least to me) they plan to make as much money (if not more) servicing their automobiles than the cost of initial purchase.

Sorry, Rant Complete

For all the dedicated long term Volvo folks out there - I'm sorry, just ticked off.

I couldn't agree more. I have been doing this for 20 yrs and have already had several "long time" Volvo owners switch and not purchase new as the last ones they bought in 99 and 2000/2001/2002 were not true to them ? Some of these people have 3 or 4 Volvo's in the family at one time. I love my Swedish cars and I really Love Volvo's but I'll turn the wrench on whatever "my" "long time" customers purchase(import wise) I'm disgusted to the bone and hope for a turn around like todays stock market!

Perhaps Volvo is lurking on this board and reading this? I hope so :( Honestly Saab isn't much better ??

I need to go vomit now!

But aren't Saabs engineered by people who design planes???? lol

Another question to all of you Volvo techs.

If I were to purchase a new tranny for my 01 V70, will it come with the same problems that I have now, or did they fix all of the issues?

It makes me sick that my tranny is on it's way out at 73k.
