java
I have just over 50K miles on MY04 S80 2.5T. I always do changes at 3750 miles and have some early signs of sludge - under the cap and on the dipstick. I have been using castrol dino 5W30. My plan is to run Mobile 1 5W30 - change it at 3K miles the first time and then every 5K after that. I belive this would be optimal in cutting down new sludge and slowly getting rid of whats in there now.Any other ideas?

Best procedure is to buy some Auto-rx and add according to directions which has esters which can slowly clean the engine. See www.auto-rx.com for details.Frankly you have to have long oil change intervals for sludge to appear in a 2.5T engine. Do not do an agressive cleaning with off the shelf so called cleaners. Do it the right way.

BillAileo
If you are still under warranty do not use Auto-RX or any other oil additives. Could well void warranty.Bill

bum2kev
Drain a quart of oil and add a quart of ATF. dont run it hard for the next 100 miles. change the oil and you should see it all come out :)

So put it in 100 miles before you plan to do your oil change
Guest 850T-5
wonder htf you'd get sludge at such low mileage with before schedule oil changes and good motor oil? Conventional oil but still? I would switch to fully synthetic, which will "slowly" clean things out. add half a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil, no more than half a quart as soon as you change the oil and filter. Then change at about 2,000 miles. then every 4,000 after if you are really want to clean things up and prevent further sludge. After a few changes if things look better, 5,000MI intervals should be fine. If you're under any kind of warranty still just don't tell them you added anything. MrWinkey
What timing! I just spent 1/2 a day dropping the pan on a 80 series that was sludged pretty bad. 1/2 of that day was spent cleaning the pan and crap. I have pics and was going to post in the near future(write up) about proper service as 7500 on conventional oil don't cut it especially with todays oil since the Fed's cut out the good additives. All I can say is CHANGE YOUR OIL REGULARY!I did notice though and never saw it before that they have piston oilers on the 6cyl. very intresting and this is an N/A.ATF works very well but be careful. It's loaded with detergent/cleansing agents It was a great remedy for stuck oil control rings on cold start with the Hondas. So that makes it +

Could well void warranty.BillPoster said he is over 50K, autorx will not void a warranty any way. It's not really an additive, it's an ester based oil. That will gently clean the engine.
