Poly Upper Engine Mount

Problem with poly is that it is stiff, stiff meaning less dampening and being that it attaches to another mount at the firewall you would want rubber that will dampen vibration better. As mentioned from heat it can harden like a rock over time, making vibration even worse.

Others might have other mounts that were shot or maybe things weren't running that smoothly, which could be the reason they felt no difference.

I went rubber and I drive hard. I like the idea of reduced engine torquing from side to side under hard accel, however I would rather have some as it was designed for rather than more vibration. It's bad enough 850's the way they're designed don't idle as smooth as other Volvos, probably due to the way it is setup, I figure I'd rather not make it worse.

If you are the least bit concerned with vibration, I wouldn't do it. If you are racing all the time and putting out lots of power, then yes it might be worth it.

When Volvo engineers designed the 850 engine, they allowed for a certain degree of lateral movement in the upper motor mount (unfortunately the document i have that says this much better than i am is on my work computer) for passenger comfort and increase longevity of the car. I've debated going poly, but after doing some research, I think that unless you're running a ton more power or using your car for track events, then the upper motor mount, which was designed by some very clever swedes, is the mount i would use to A.) do the job you need it to do (i.e. help support your engine in the bay) and B.) to do that job in the most efficient and comfortable way possible.

And so what if they wear out faster, they're cheap.
