Sandro Seminara
So while I was doing a tranny oil change I was over looking my future radiator change when it gets warm here. My biggest concer are the two 10mm toward the top of the radiator. I grabbed a 10mm 1/4 socket and placed a unversal joint on one end and then an extension connected to the rachet. I tried taking the bolt out, but it seems to be an award angel to get leverage on the bolt. Anyone figure out another way? I was thinking of maybe drilling a 1/4 hole through the black plastic that makes this bolt so hard to remove. Any ideas would very much help.RegardsSandro
betterthingstodo
I grabbed a 10mm 1/4 socket and placed a unversal joint on one end and then an extension connected to the rachet. That's the way I got mine out. You may want to loosen everything up a bit and see if that doesn't give you a little more access to get the socket in there.
Sandro Seminara
As in you used those tools or you drilled a small hole?
betterthingstodo
As in you used those tools or you drilled a small hole?I used those tools and drilled no holes. As I remember those are the top 2 mounting bolts that hold the air conditioner condenser to the radiator & intercooler (if you have a turbo) assembly. I found with everything loosened up the 3-piece assembly AC condenser/Intercooler/Radiator had some maneuverability. Remember the AC condenser will stay behind and it's literally hanging there with no support once the radiator and intercooler is out, use some bungies or rope to support it.When I dropped the radiator and intercooler back in place those bolts were one of the first things I put back. A second set of hands was a must for me.
Pops Racer
Use a couple of wire coat hangers to suspend/hold condensor in place. Did mine with no help. Not bad to do. Be careful of I.C. mounting plates/tabs. As you said, there is plenty of wiggle room.
Sandro Seminara
What's the order you made the tool.... 10mm -> Universal socket -> 6" -> 1/4 rachet? Is that the order and size you used?

Is that the order and size you used? That's correct, though my extension may have been longer. All craftsman brand. Are you not able to get to the bolts? make sure your looking at the correct bolts, I just checked mine and there are 2 rather close together on each side. You want the ones all the way at the top.
Sandro Seminara
I can get to the bolt, but when I try to unbolt it the angle that the universal joint ends up doesn't allow for me to put enough leverage on the bolt so that when I turn the rachet it doesn't slip off the bolt.
