S80 Srs And Abs Issues

I have a friend who owns a '99 S80 NA and he has asked me to look at his car tomorrow morning. His wife is saying that she cannot pull the driver's seat belt out of the b-pillar at all, and that the airbag light is on along with the abs light. So I have a few questions:

1. Is there some sort of known issue with the front seat belts in this car, and would an airbag module malfunction somehow cause the belt not to uncoil? Is there some sort of lock-down on the belt in a fault condition? Sounds weird to me, but then again I'm only familiar with 850/70 series.

2. If the SRS module is bad, where is it located and can it be repaired like the ABS modules by someone like Victor?

3. Is the removal of the ABS module similar to that on the 850/70 and does it use the #5 reverse torx?

Any other helpful insight into this car would be appreciated. My friend thinks I'm some sort of Volvo repair guru, lol, and I am decent with the 850/70, but I know nothing about the S80. TIA!

Ask him if he had to jump the car recently, my dad got his car jumped by some gas station after they valet parked it at the Cubs game and they left the door ajar. He ended up needing a new airbag, airbag sensor and a whole slew of other things.

He has an 02 S80 and I have a 99 S80.

Okay, so I guess we can rule out the "jump-start" theory since he hasn't had one anyway.

So, is the SRS module located under the center console? This is the rumor, along with the rumor that maybe it was "leaked" on by soda or coffee (that's his mechanic's synopsis). Still none of this explains while the driver's seat belt won't uncoil. What is weird to to me is that the Volvo seat belts that I know on the 850/70 are mechanical and shouldn't be controlled in any way by an SRS module. I doubt that on the '99 S80 that they decided to change designs/operations ... anyone have a different thought?

C'mon Skywriter, you know plenty about these cars, fess up, lol !!!

Here's the removal instructions for the ABS unit.

Look at the turbo model portion to make it easier.

Vic, I pulled the abs module today and want to send it to you. I left you an email for payment and shipping instructions.

Thanks for the help!

Too bad you can't repair the srs modules too :(

Victor has you covered on the ABS so were talking SRS now.

I doubt the fault lies within the module they need to have the code read by the dealer or an indy with the proper scan tool. I also believe that the belt just may be jambed. Check the car out and let us know.

That's exactly what I did Mr. Winkey ... told him to go back and get the code read. I'm sure there's a code there somewhere, maybe a belt or an airbag disonnected. The airbag light I found out was "shop induced". He never had it before but it was on when he got in the car after being in the shop last week for other unrelated repairs. He immediately went back inside but they told him they couldn't find any codes and told him his srs module was bad. I'm sure they messed something up and that's why he's going back to get the codes read again.

The seatbelt was jammed, yes. So ... we're getting closer. Next, he wants me to replace all the pads, rotors, and rear shocks on his '01 S40 :D
