All,

I've got a 2001 S20 2.9 and I'm considering getting a 2005 S80 T5 for the wife.

Any thoughts on the following

1. turbo life and reliability with the T5 engine

2. any transmission problems

3. Throttle body issues

4. Power compared to the 2.9 (non-turbo)

5. any other feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

OO ok Well, your 2001 is probably falling apart already isn't?

Are you talking about 2.5T ones?

2005 looks like to be really reliable

Have you looked into S60's?

Actually my 01 S80 is in very good shape and is excellent mechanically--hence another Volvo.

yea looking at a 2005 S80 T5 (2.5L), this is one being considered

Looks sick, do it. I have a S80 T6 and love it, and gotta figure that an S80 T5 would be damn nice too. More parts will be available to mod the engine for that because its a T5.

2.5T and T5 are different engines. 2.5T is an LPT (light pressure turbo) motor and has a very small turbo which builds boost at low RPM and has very good low end power, where as the T5 is an HPT (high pressure turbo) motor and has a larger turbo and makes most of its power at higher RPM. S80's were never available with T5 motors.

2005 2.5T makes 208 hp and 236 ft-lb

2005 T5 (only available in the S60 and V70) makes 257 hp and 258 ft-lb
