Modus
What brand of tranny fluid should I top off with? what is stock? I have never needed to add some till now. Noticing Tranny is shifting hard at low speeds, checked level, says it's cold when it's hot. Do i need to add like a half of a quart in it? 98 S70GLT 112k miles allways somethingModus
Entuscan
98's probably still have dexron II-E atf oil.check your owners manual to make sure.
KLS
Dexron-IIE has been superceded by Dexron-III. If the transmission calls for any Dexron, Dexron-III works (except in older Hondas...replace Dexron-II with Honda's own ATF--or Dexron-III plus Lubegard black). If your owner's manual says to use Dexron, any brand is OK. If it says to use Volvo's own ATF, use only that.I doubt very much if topping off your ATF will cure your hard shift. Here's what I'm doing (and the shifting is smoother already)...I'm cleaning the transmission with Auto-Rx, then I'll do a complete 12 quart flush and refill with synthetic Dexron-III(H) ATF. If your transmission calls for Volvo's ATF, you can use either the Volvo stuff or Red Line D4 ATF after a complete flush.Ken

DEWFPO
When's the last time you flushed the trans? DEWFPO
Modus
I don't think ever. I bought the car in 2000 with 40K miles on it. Put 72K on it in 4years never touched the tranny. The problem is that i don't want to bring it to the dealer and have them do the maintenance at $85 and hour. (seems inevitable) I'm trying to locate a good shop. How ever i would do it my self but i don't have the nessary machine, or do I? If a flush has never been done would it be okay to assume that i should upgrade the fluid to a more performance grade after a flush? or stick with the same?modus

blandis
Flush is super easy, is instruction on Bay 13. I used mobil 1 ATF, smoothed out hard shifts especially 3rd gear under heavy throttle. That would be my first step.
