Where Do These Vacuum Lines Go?!?

Alright well since my car is currently not moving and I'm still waiting on parts in the mail I decided to change my Vac lines and put my new Stylin Motors ones in. Well surprise surprise most of the lines were not attached to the TCV and I think the CBV (if thats the thing with the red nipple thing on it) was disconnected altogether. Ive had the car since September and always noticed I wasn't getting full boost so i knew something was up anyway.

Anyway , Can someone please help me out and tell me where these lines connect ? The TCV has the little color code on it but it doesn't help when i dont know which hose goes to which color!

oh the car is a 96 850 turbo btw

Here are the pics! Sorry if they arent too great , it was 0 outside today with a sweet wind chill of -10.

the TCV

all the other crap coming from the turbo area...

The CBV (i think?) without the other line on it

This metal line coming from the front of the car idk where it goes but i know i need it!

Thanks!!!

take a look at this Thread in Performance mods... ..it gives you the three bcs/tcv lines..

The cbv (the one on the side of the turbo closest to the engine) line goes to the intake manifold.

This should help with some of the others...

...can't help w/the metal line, my V70 doesn't have that...

EDIT: IF the metal line goes along the heater pipe on the back of the engine, then it should be the one coming from the FPR - intended for moisture removal (NOT to be confused with vacuum line that runs paralell to the fuel delivery line athat also goes to the FPR) - attaches to a port on the inlet hose close to the top.

OMG dude, so much of what i see is totally not correct. I don't even know where to start, the pic by Dmsee will help a lot... I guess i'll try to find some time tomorrow to take some pics of my lines to help you out. But in the mean time...

First, the red nipple on the BCS (TCV) goes to the bottom of the turbo compressor housing (that's the side where the intake piping connects.

The blue nipple goes to the underside of the intake piping post MAF sensor (it's not hard to find, it's the only nipple on the intake piping sticking down in an obvious fashion.

the Yellow nipple goes to the wastegate actuator, that's the 'round' disc on top of the turbo (should have a rod coming out the other side) in the second picture.

When standing on the drivers side of the car, the CBV has a nipple going directly up (as in 90 degrees from the horizontal surface of the ground) and is inboard of the wastegate actuator, and slightly below it.

I gotta make dinner before the old lady turns me to stone with her glare ... I'll try to get some pics with more info either later tonight or tomorrow....

(PS. It REALLY helps to ONLY do one line at a time, so you know where they all go before you find yourself in this mess, but it seems they were already wrong when you got the car.)

What other Mod's you got going on? I have no idea why you have the line from the BCS to the wastegate actuator Teed off like that?

I have no mods what so ever yet. I'm just trying to get stage 0 done before I do anything else. What seemed like the simplest thing just turned into a nice pain in the butt for me haha.

If you do get around to taking pics I would really appreciate it since i have no idea what the hell im doing right now.

The line on the BCS thats teed off was already like that when i got it so i just cut the hoses and put them on like that. I thought it was right since thats how i got the car, but i guess not? lol

Oh and that metal line in the last pic i have is coming from the front by the headlight....

There's something very strange about your setup. (aside from all the disconected lines ;) )

#1 I've had that area in my engine bay apart 5 times in the last moth and I can't think of any metal line that runs up to toward the headlight. Are you sure it's not hard black plastic?

#2 I don't know what that thing with a vac line next to your wastegate is. I think you'll want to get that question answered asap. Could it be a MBC anyone? Is this the thing you mentioned with the red nipple? It's definatley not your CBV, see seagrams reply on where that is.

#3 Another question to ask is why the hell is there a T off your wastegate vac line, the one with the yellow dot next to the nipple? (like seagrams said in a different post I'm pretty sure you don't want anything T'ed into any BCS vac line.)? Does your car have an aftermarket boost gauge on the dash? someone else just made that mistake on the board.

#4 I think the vac line in your first pic that is angled twice so it's facing the front of the car goes to your heater plate vac line connection at the base of your induction hose. See the pic that Lookforjoe posted.

You definately have a couple of things going on under your hood that you will need to figure out before you put anything back together. Do you know the person you got the car from. Did they "mod it" at all?

Hopefully some more experienced guys will post.

Good luck man

Might help

Hey dude take note that this diagram is slightly different from your car. The bcv is normally mounted the other way up (So that the yellow nipple is oriented up) and the green= he the red on your car. Make sense? ; ) Also the red line in the diagram goes to your intake manifold. fyi

Alright I'm gonna try today to redo these lines (weather permitting). Thanks for all the help so far guys I really appreciate it a lot!!

I bought the car on ebay originally for only $1438 so i really cant complain too much about what I got! I knew it was gonna be a little bit of work, but I'm really willing to learn stuff so in the end it works out. The owner was a dick anyway and hadn't owned the car for too long since he had like 5 cars to begin with. He also didn't really know to much about volvo's anyway and told me the radio code was gone, yet it was in the manual the whole time... Anywhere heres a thread from when i first bought the thing. http://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...p;#entry1099757

Today I'm gonna also try and take more pictures of that metal line. Its defiantly metal and I suppose important.

I'm wondering whether the thing you refer to as the CBV is a manual boost controller? As big of a mess as that is, if I were you i'd take out all the lines and start over, along with new hose. The lines in question are easy enough to figure out with the provided info on this thread.

Well I went outside today before it started to rain again and took a couple fast pics.

So far Ive gotten the Yellow and Blue done...which is nothing but still.

img1213yd0.jpg

Alright, but i removed that stupid thing with the red nipple that no one knows wtf it is and im left with this... <_<

img1208bf7.jpg

Which leaves me with a problem since i now need to figure out what comes out of this part, I have the PCV diagram that you guys provided but i can see to find where 1:19 and 10 lead to . I suppose the vac line that i have that was teed off will now go in-between 1:119 and 10 to connect to the other line in the diagram. Not too sure.

Here is a pic of what that metal line that I pictured earlier where it starts up by the headlight.

Thank god for digi cameras!

Pictures make it so much easier!

Start over ;

#10 goes the the angled port

#18 goes to the vertical port after you clean it out.

I'd recommend removing the inlet hose & cleaning out all those orifices - you may also need to do an Oil Trap - but at least start here...

hmmm , well do you think since its plugged up and most likely missing some stuff that i should just go ahead an order a new PCV set up from FCP Groton?

I mean i know its part of the stage 0 anyway and it should be done....of course i wouldnt be doing the PCV lol
