Why Am I Still Leaking Oil After Pcv Done?

Man, I went through the trouble of replacing my entire PCV system, checking the vacuum hoses, replacing all intercooler hoses and basically doing an entire tune-up on my car, and I am still getting oil on top of the engine! It seems like it's coming from that stupid hose on top still. Did I miss something?

h/o ill find the link but did you clean the pct? also are you sure the hose is on tight? last did you ever replace the oil cap or gasket?

edit heres there thread pct thread

You know...I had no idea about the pct! I'll check that out next. I hope that is the culprit.

I can't quite tell from those pics...how many nipples are there on the intake hose? Do they come off the hose somehow, or do you just open them and clean them?

I doubt that cleaning the PCT would prevent oil from being left on top of the engine. Replace the cap and gasket, tighten the top pcv hose again. If it had oil around the top pcv port, it would also allow oil to blowby the hose and out onto the engine. Wipe it dry before tightening.

....huh?

its a known fact that if the PTC is clogged how are you going to get vacuum in the pcv in the first place? even if you tighten the hose.

I'm not denying the fact that the PCT should be cleaned when servicing the PCV system. Just simply saying that the oil is obviously coming from the cap/gasket or pcv hose. I know how it all works man, i've done the PCV service http://s40concepts.net/forum/index.php?t=m...4248785ec067a8f

btw: my vac is dead on 20inhg in park and neutral. 18inhg in gear, and i have zero oil on top of my engine. Not trying to start something, making a suggestion "IN ADDITION" to cleaning the PCT. :pizza:

oh im not trying to start anything. but i had this exact thing happen. I had 20 hg in neutral and i was still leaking out of the cap....even with a new cap and seal. i finally just gave up and figured it was the rings or something. I was also still getting smoke out the dipstick. i finally cleaned the ptc and it was all fixed yay! now i have like 20.5 in neutral is 17 in gear fine? was that on an 850?

That how-to was on my S40. I also did the PCV on my dad's 01 S60 T5. Straightforward. Same parts numbers too. Just seems like the times i've gotten oil from the cap, all i did to fix it was remove the cap o-ring and wipe it down, then make sure that the cap is seated perfectly, they can have a little play even when tightened.

I don't get any smoke or sitting oil. However, I have had the dipstick blowout and oil my entire engine bay. Only happens when ambient is below freezing, i'm going above 100mph, and boosting 20psi. Dipstick o-ring seems to need replacing on mine almost yearly. I usually throw on a larger one and then tape the dipstick on with electrical tape. Pain in the ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD when checking the oil level, but definitely worth it, rather than cleaning the entire engine bay.

And between 16-18inhg in gear is fine, depending on accessory vac pull, brakes, ac, etc.

Sorry for the threadjack - How do you like the S40? Is the 14T the stock turbo? My wife used to have an 04 V40 - seemed like a quick little car.

if you have to tape your dipstick down something is wrong there

after my pcv service i had no oil under the spark plug cover but it still smoked then i cleaned the pct and no smoke, i really need to put my boost gauge in

The dipstick isn't popping because of too high crankcase pressure, i mean it is, but it was traced back to a worthless oem o-ring. The new o-ring i put on requires brute force to remove the dipstick, the tape is just precautionary.

and Gilhuly: I love the S40, it came factory with a lpt twin-scroll 12T. The 14T was bought new from JAwarehouse on ebay, it's the oem turbo on Euro model T4 S40's and is a direct bolt-on. I dynoed 171whp with the 12t, and 205whp with the 14T. After being dyno tuned by upsolute, it now sits at around 240whp and upwards of 280ftlbs. Fun little ride, gotta love the 2,900lb curb weight. Power-weight ratio!
