Carbon Wrapping

I'm wanting to carbon wrap a few things...spoiler lip, skid plate, and last but not least, the slides on my Walther P99c and P22. They're steel and tennifer-treated, and I have no idea how to go about preparing tennifer-treated steel for carbon wrapping. Also, if I had them professionally clear coated, would they have a glossy surface? And once the epoxy has set and the wrap has been sanded, is it smooth? Thanks in advance. Moderators feel free to move it to OT if you want.

Yeah, that big ugly hunk of shiny steel that covers the middle 2/3rds of my front spoiler lip.

You plan on hitting trees? Skid plates are supossed to protect something. Thats not a skid plate, thats just a big hunk of ugly on your bumper, and nothing more :P

Yeah actually it does protect something...that skid plate has taken more shots to its frontside than HPTJoe's 9-year old boyfriend has. It protects the spoiler lip...which by the way, is completely scraped to hell. I went to remove it a year ago and decided to leave it on after seeing the paint behind it. It protects society from seeing a horribly disfigured front lip.

just grab that stuff from namomotorsports and clear coat it.

That is for interior use ;) and it's more expensive.

After the CF comes out of the vac bag it is slightly textured, once it is sanded it will be matte and smooth. That's when you can either polish it or clear over it. If you're using a mold, it should come out of the mold smooth.

Well I traded my Walther in on an XD-9 subcompact with a stainless slide, so I won't be carbon wrapping that. I might still do the P22 slide if I can get it to stick. I'm guessing I'll need to sand the tennifer completely off. I want a high gloss look to it once it's done.

It will stick but you will have jerk laods of issues overlooking the obvious ones

Like what? The slide isn't considered the firearm itself, so covering up the slide's serial numbers is not illegal, at least not in KY. I've double-checked that one. If I do it I'll be trimming it properly so only the breech face will be covered, but the internal parts will not be touched, so the barrel will still slide freely. The extractor arm still needs to be able to pivot, and the sights/safety lever will need to be removed until after it's finished. Functionally, everything would work properly after the wrap is finished. The only problem that might keep me from doing it is the grooves...getting the wrap to contour inside the grooves should be difficult, if not impossible. On the flip side, it might look better without them.
