sks40
Ever since I got my V50 used last month it has been making a continuous squealing noise when the engine is cold. The noise goes away, or at least gets much quieter when warmed up. The sound changes pitch when I turn the steering wheel even just a little. I understand that these cars use an electric power steering pump.?. Volvo service told me that some of these cars are starting to do this but haven't seen any problem with it.Any thoughts?BTW, I did check the crank case issue. If I open the oil fill or pull the dip stick, there is no change in the sound. It appears to be coming from the PS. The PS fluid level is ok.Thanks in advance,Stan
Dmsee
You dont have a warranty? I would just take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it
2001T5
Squealing usually is either a belt or bearing. Now I'm assuming since you say the PS pump is electric, there is no belt turning the pump. If that is the case, then I'd go with the bearings inside the ps pump. Maybe it takes a few minutes to get warmed up.
dmelviØØ7
Needs a new PS pump, they are notorious for going bad. Hope you still have some warranty left.
sks40
Fortunately the car is a Volvo Certified Pre-Owned with a 6 year / 100K mile warranty...whoo...hoo! I doubt that they will do anything about it until it actually fails though.Stan
