theunderlord
Anyone tried the iPD relay to adjust the wiper interval? I have tons of rain-x on there, but you don't get driving fast enough in the city for it to be all that effective. Any suggestions?
Mesoam
I remember recently some one said you could use a cheap APC version and it worked fine, but i can't seem to find the thread since you can't search 3 letter words
Stormin Norman
I have the IPD thang, it works great. Make sure you push it all the way into the mount.

I think I'll score one. The Seattle sunshine is going to be up on us here in a few weeks. It's amazing, those of us who live here won't be able to see the sun again until March. :D
Geevs
Hi,Here's a related link in alt.autos.volvo altho a bit outdatedhttp://groups.google.com/groups?q=bosch+wi...erio.net&rnum=2and another one here on VShttp://volvospeed.com/vs_forum/index.php?s...212entry75212I notice that the Bosch part numbers are different although they are supposed to do the same thing. Since the latter link is more recent maybe that's the correct part number.G
Serge
Someone here said that an old VW one works great for like 1/10th of the cost.

littledog
I went to a local auto parts store (Lordco for those in BC) to get the Bosch one.To my surprise they have it! I bought the Bosch Programmable Wiper Relay 0 986 335 058. It's only $40 Cdn. Going to pick it up tomorrow and try it out. Hopefully it will work. littledog
Just picked it up and it actually is a KAE brand 3.200.110 relay. Says Changeable Intervals on it and there's another part number on the bag 3B0 955 531 which matches the VW part numbers so I guess it's the right one. I will try it out later today and let you guys know asap.On a side note, Vanocuver, BC was just issued a Heavy Rainfall warning. :P
Geevs
Where did you get the part and cost? I'm from the same side of town. Thanks!
littledog
Damnit!@ It doesn't work. Before I go and refund it, just make sure I am doing this right.1.) Replace Volvo Wiper Relay (Red 203) with this one2.) Turn the wiper to the intermidate position, wipe once, then to stop3.) Wait let say 10 seconds, put it back to intermediate position4.) Then it should wipe every 10 second, right?Did I miss anything? If not, then I guess I'll pay the 68 bucks and get the IPD one.
maiku
here is the ipd relay info:Our "SMART" adjustable intermittent wiper relay fits 850 and 70 series models. Surprisingly, these cars come with a non-adjustable interval on the intermittent wiper function. If it happens to be raining at 1.8 drops per square inch per second, the stock six second interval works great. But it's more likely you'll either be anxiously awaiting the next swipe or else watching your wipers chatter across a dry windshield. Our "SMART" relay allows you to easily adjust the interval to suit the conditions. Simply lift the wiper lever into the intermittent position and then back to the stop position. The relay counts the seconds until you move the lever back into the intermittent position. This is your new interval. You can set the interval from 1.5 seconds to 22 seconds. Our "SMART" relay simply replaces the original wiper relay and since no wiring or additional parts are needed, you retain a nice stock look and feel. Installation takes about 15 minutes. Complete instructions are included.so i believe you put into intermittent position, then back to stop, then back to intermittent.maybe try other positions? like the superslow and superfast positionsand '98S70R said to make sure it was inserted all the way into the relayand yesterday the rain was just crazy. even the "superfast" setting wasn't fast enough. might get me the relay if you manage to get it working littledog
