Map Light Leds

S60RDUDE

Recommended Posts

I saw at one time someone had taken LEDs (Not bright) and mounted them in their S70 as map lights over head light panel. This is a common feature on new cars to have a dim LED provide ambient light at night while driving. Anyone know this person or know where I can find the post? I have been searching all morning!

Thanks,

Bobby

Talking about dome lights or an additional light ? I have them, post back or PM me if you need a night time pic and details on the LED's used for it. Makes a huge difference and really cleans up the interior, no more dim yellow light.

I want to do the map lights in the front, what bulbs did you use?

Grant, I used the 921-x9 Wedge Base LED bulb. It's just an LED that I had laying around and didn't feel like wasting. I soldered mine and angled it down, lemme know if you need pics.

And in typical SS fashion, he overpaid for those LED's. :D

i am talking in addition to the dome lights in the front. They were just two little LEDs some how flush mounted on the dome light by rear view mirror. I think they were slightly orange.

You can drill a small hole and mount one flush with the cover. I used this: B8.3D-B Instrument Cluster LED bulb it's in the link I gave Grant. It's also one I had left over from a cluster repair and it worked with a thin piece of rubber matting to act as a seal. Light output is dicy in that area: too much and it's a distraction, not enough and you don't get ambience or mood lighting, you just have a sorry looking bulb.... :(

OK, I'm going to adjust mine tonight, not thrilled with the light output. In the meantime, here's Serge's excellent write up and some pics of what you should expect.

As usual, it's quality work and perfect results, as can be expected from him. Click me
