hgray14
I see things like the Scan Gauge II code reader from IPD for the 850 from 1996-on that are meant to be plugged into the OMBII port. Both of my 1995 850 Turbos and my 1995 850 T-5R have OMBII ports under the coin holder in the ash tray area. What is different about my cars that a computer like that won't work on my OMBII ports?thanksHouston
BEJinFBK
Way too much to explain here...Get out on Google, Yahoo, Dogpile or something and search "OBD ll". The internet is your friend and the world is at your fingertips!
ErikS
95 was a bastard year as I have both as well. You can still read the codes through the DTC under your hood and clear them. But sometimes they won't clear unless you use a scan tool.WTF Volvo did that nobody knows. I guess they were testing the system out in that model. If someone asks you at Autozone and you tell them its a 95 and they say a scan toll won't work, tell them it will.

I think it has a production date of 1994 while my other 1995 have production dates in early 1995 although my 1995 850 T-5R also doesn't work. Or maybe it is the cheap, generic reader I bought. I am going to try one more.Does anyone know if the OMBII can be updated or am I stuck with what I have? I love to have one that works but am not willing to trade my '95 for a '96 (my 95 is in perfect shape...and is free at this point).Houston
ErikS
Mine was late production 95. Don't know about the OBDII update but I would think not. You may be stuck with popping the hood and using the box.

AlvinL
OBDII scan tools only read engine emmision codes (P-codes), nothing else. The diagnostic box and VST (Volvo Scan Tool) reads emmision (A2) plus may others such as ABS, SRS, climate, instrument cluster, etc. Any trouble code can be reset unless there is a problem. Get it fixed and it WILL clear. There is one code for ABS that won't clear but it is normal because the car is not moving when checked (you'll know what I mean). If you have a 95 or earlier, don't waste your time with p-codes. If the diagnostic box is broken, get it fixed. It's the best tool around. The dealer makes lots of money without it.Learn to use it.
