Amplifier Mounting Solutions

I'm finally getting back into the audio game...I have like 3 brand new amps that I feel like putting in since the car is wired for them. My question is....how have people secured their amps in their cars? Most obvious would be on the rear seat, but I don't know how stable that would be. Either way give me some options w/o going completely custom. Thanks

Currently, I have only one amp in the car and it is mounted on a custom cut piece of particle board that is carpeted and rests halfway into the space where the spare would otherwise be. Obviously this forces you to keep a spare in the main part of the trunk or simply not have one in the car at all. I really like the location of the amp, but the no spare thing is terrible! I am considering mounting the amp on one of the seats as well, and would also be very interested in how you did it/what hardware was used.

Try removing the seat covers (if possible) and taking a look at the support situation. If you cant take the covers off but can slide a piece of plywood up there you can do this to. If there is enough room under the cover mount something like 1/4" MDF or thin plywood inside and secure it to the beams. Cut the edge with a slight bevel, round the edges, etc., so that the cover goes on smoothly (or the board slides in smoothly). What you'll get is a place you can screw anything of any size to and not have to be limited by where the beams are. Also it'll look cleaner than having the seat back and a big ol' square of MDF sitting visible.

I have tried mounting my amp in my car (2002 S60) on the sidewall, but it looked a little weird and I have to much time, so I am currently in progress of rebuilding the trunk and finishing the install this spring.

Also Hi, I'm Mahi, B Mac told me about the Volvospeed forum so I'll be around!

Well, if you don't mind taking up space in the trunk, you could just mount them to the floor with velcro. I mounted 3 amps in the 3rd seat area of my 245 with velcro, and the things don't move at all.

Until you hit something and they come through the back of your head!

Secure those things, man! The skull you crack may not appreciate it.

Yeah, I know. You never get in any accidents...Riiight...

I never planned on any of mine, either.

Seriously. Keep it safe and sane.

It's really not that hard to do.

wouldn't happen. they're under the trunk floor, locked up. Plus, they stay just fine, take my words for it.

OK...I was reading too fast and missed that they were under floor boards.

I've just seen a lot of hokey installs and it ticks me off. Sorry.

One of our customers had a loose amp in a Pathfinder and his wife stopped using a ditch for brakes.

The amp put a pretty big gouge in the back of a baby seat. People just don't always think things through, man.

"I was gonna fix it later, babe". Right...!

Explain that one to your wife while you're at the ER!

understandable. My old car's (Nissan 200SX) sound install was crap. Didn't have the amps mounted right, and fried one because of it. After that, I decided that I was going to make sure my next install was clean, and done right. So far, it's proving to be worth all the time and effort.

8,760 Hours in a Year,

1 hour to install crappy,

2-3 hours to install it tight.

You are correct, Sir!

Easy Math...
