Funny Interior Sound

When it is over 90 degrees and humid outside, I notice this faint whistling sound. When I accelerate, the sound gets louder and when I let off of the gas, the sound gets softer then disappears. This happens both when the Air conditioner is turned on or off. I checked for failure codes and gave a half arse attempt to check for vacum leaks. Please advise.

Try this: Keep your outside air button on the of position, and go for a drive and see if the sound dissapears. If it does, that means the closing of the air inlet under the polen filter (if you have one or not)) is not closing properly. There is a little door there operated by an electrical motor connected to a little gear box which in turn is connected to a little plastic arm which connects to this door. This is behind the glove box. If I remenber correctly there is a little adjustment device there. Perhaps you will have to adjust it. It happens on hotter days as the rubber seal arount that door, which may not be in the fully closed position, gets softer due to the heat and the outside air pressure that builds with speed forces air thru the gap, creating the whistling noise.

Check also you air mixture dial, if your car has one.

Good luck!

Same thing I have. My guess is the Orfice tube. Is the low pressure (???) side of the A/C. Is a $4 plastic part that goes in one of the AC lines. Has an o-ring ($.50) on it and it will crack and let the pressure leak. That is what is causing the noise. Mine will even do it after the car is shut off for about 6-8 seconds. The AC system has to tore into to fix it. Rich said it would not hurt to leave it as long as the noise does not drive you insane.

I figure next season my AC will need to be recharged anyway, so I will fix it then. Hope this helps.
