hgray14
I have been searching for about 20 minutes and can't find a list of years/engines. I have seen one before but can't remember where. Please point me in the right direction.thanksHouston

hgray14
Which years/engines were low pressure turbos and which ones were high pressure?I have a 1995 850 Turbo and a 1995 850 T-5R. Both engines are the same, other than ECU, right?thanksHouston
JHEIII874T5M
Yes, both your 850s have the same engine, aside from ECU.Only LPT 850 was the 1997 850 GLT. It uses Motronic 4.4. Essentially identical to the 98 S70 GLT.
Skaggs
i had a motor in my 95 turbo blow at 150,xxx now i have the motor out of a 96 R with 98,xxxSweet!

Essentially identical to the 98 S70 GLT.That is interesting. The parts car I just purchased (1995 850 Turbo with all sorts of performance upgrades including IPD ECU and Exhaust) has a "Motronic 4.4+ by Ipd" sticker on the back window. Was the kid who previously owned it just fooling around with stickers or could it mean something? I am pretty sure the engine is stock other than the IPD ECU which I have tested in my other Turbo and it works great.Houston
maiku
i doubt it's running M4.4 unless they completely rewired the car...
Boost_Junky
Better than starting a new thread. Which of these engines is the best for building the internals to take a large turbo and high boost? I think you would know JHEIII.
HtownTurboBrick
all the 2.3's are the same. Except the 96 and 97 R's have a better oil pan, more baffaling for cooling. Other then that its the same.

Fudge_Brownie
They have variable valve timing and stronger internals. They will not be able to run in your car though. Known as the ME7 (opposed to M4.4/M4.3) or 99+ engines.

EricF
It really depends on the level of your build and how far into things you want to get... But they are the nicest block castings and probably have some other things nice about them which I do not know because I'm not all that familiar with them. These things may or may not matter depending upon what you're looking to do and what your goals are.For most projects the 850 T5 engine is going to be just fine.
