gatlin
Good morning.I searched, but I could not find an answer...I'm trying to clean up the Sirius install in my '98 S70 T5. I have the factory SC901 stereo with the Blizsafe RCA adapter into the CD changer plug. The Sirius unit is the Sportster 4, which is powered with 5 volt rather than 12 volt. I'm currently powering the Sirius unit with the 5v cigarette adapter that came with it. Obviously, this is ugly.Does anyone know if there is 5v power anywhere in my car that I can tap into to power the Sirius unit and get rid of the ugly cigarette adapter? Thanks for your help.Gatlin
rwb
For the 5v for my XM I used the cigarette adapter and simply soldered on the positive and negative wires and hooked them up to 12v. Then I just hid the adapter behind the radio.
CAPT_BLOTTO
do not cut off the cigarette lighter adapter. Theres a fuse and other stuff in there and there's an easy way to do it. just go to your local auto parts store and get this:
crazykn
If you have some soldering skills and understand some simple electronics, you can purchase a voltage regulator chip from radioshack that will handle the job nicely and be discrete. The chip is a LM7805. Which will take whatever voltage (as long its above 7V+) and convert it to a straight 5V.
Malvasi
Just wire the adapter it comes with into the harness behind the radio and that will bring it down to 5v from 12v. That is the easiest and safest way to do this. I do this all day long at Circuit City where I am an installer. It works perfect. I would tape them together though so they dont come apart and hide the while thing behind your dash.
