True Swede
Hi guysEvery now and then I get a sort of tapping noise behind the dash somewhere between the radio console and the glove box. The first time I heard it I thought it was a stuck CD in the player, kinda sounded like that, but as I ejected the CD the noise was still there. Last time I heard it I started playing with the A/C increasing/decreasing the fan speed. Made no difference. This comes and goes very irregularly and only lasts for a minute at the most, and then everything is good for a couple of days.Any inputs would be much appreciated. The car is a 98 S70 T5, 121k mi.Thanks,TS

It is akin to a stepper motor controlling the flapper in the vents - allowing more or less air into the cabin to adjust both temperature and where the air is coming from. That is my guess.Scott C. What got me wondering is why this has only come to my attention recently, after driving the car for almost two years. I was afraid something was breaking on me.As for the "AUTO" part, I usually have it set to manual. Not sure if that makes any difference..TS
backfoot100
Sounds sorta like the same issues that I'm getting in my car. Just started last summer and is completely random when it happens. Could last for a few seconds or several minutes. I've noticed that when it does happen, it's when the climate controls are set to AUTO and the fan isn't even on but the noise sounds like a fan bearing that is starting to go or the squirrel cage is lightly rubbing against something. When the A/C kicks on, the fan works fine and after the car reaches the AUTO temp setting and then slows way down or even stops running is when the sound usually happened. I haven't heard it at all in quite a few months now. If it continues, I may just pull out the fan and try to lube up the bearings which I've read about in here and see if that does anything for me. I had it about 3 yrs ago and asked the dealer to look at it when they chaged out my blend door motor because I thought it was related to AC/ Climate control also. Whatever it was they fixed it but it wasn't shown as an itemized charge on the bill.
Boost_Junky
Is it in time with the engine vibrations? If so it's a common problem. Search dash rattle or dash noise.

hendredon
In my case it doesn't seem so, the dash is pretty tight.. No change when parked or moving.TSIt's random and intermittent right? Could be the blend door motor or other damper motor starting to stick. The climate control system on these cars are notorious for problems. Do you get an error (blinking lights on the climate controls)?
True Swede
Do you get an error (blinking lights on the climate controls)?Haven't noticed that so far, but will look closer once it does this again. What would be the best remedy for this problem?TS
