Ok now for my part…

Big deal…

Clutch pilot bearing needs to be made, the crankshaft is smaller then the earlier models. We couldn’t locate a Volvo bushing that would work so you would have to take a earlier bushing and have it “turned” down (machined) to fit in the snout.

Not so big deal (as long as you have a spare parts room)

I needed to use the regular front drive half shafts as the AWD has a foot long spline that comes out of it and wouldn’t seal on the trans. The driver’s side would still work. I noticed (rather quickly I might add) that the hub carrier splines were smaller then the older FWD shafts, so I swapped out some FWD hub bearing carriers and it went together as easy as pie (I don’t really know what that means other then it was, well easy).

I don’t know the later cars well but if the later cars use the smaller splines, you would really just need the passenger side half shaft.

Also need a FWD steering rack.

OR SHORT FORM you need

FWD steering rack

Fwd passenger half shaft small spline (or matching hub carriers and half shafts)

Machined pilot bearing.

Couple of side notes

The bevel gear needs to come off first,

Do the shifter cables and clutch MC wile the trans is out of the car (so you have more room)

Wiring is just as with the earlier models

Green and green/red wires get spliced together for the starter

Blue and blue/gray go to the reverse light button on top the trans

I'm so excited to see this happen. It's great to see my trans, shifter, etc... living on in a truly great machine. Congrats to all who were involved in the assembly side of things!

Sorry to say this but your not the first :(

I'm not sure where you're getting this information--there has been prolonged discussion about this on V70R.com and it's clear that it has never been seriously attempted before on a 99-00R. No one was really sure if this would work. Someone has indeed put in an M56 in a '98R, but that's a totally different ballgame. For a '98R you can just drop in a T5M ECU and be done with it, but ME7 involves ECUs that are permanently linked to the chassis. Not to mention the different crank output shaft size, requiring the custom pilot bearing.

I'm definately interested in doing this now, I didn't know it was possible until now. Are you running the stock ECU? Is the car still running on the TCU or is it pulled out?

TCU is still in there, it was the only way to keep the tach and speedo functional. the ecu is still stock also, but the new reflash coming soon, will be the finishing touch.

Wow, so the only swapped items are mechanical? No CELs or anything? Sorry for all the questions but I actually want to swap my car now

Yup, I have the CEL and arrow flashin up right now (TCU is trying to look for the Auto Transmission) 1st try w/o the TCU everything worked but the iddle was lumpy, 2nd try w/ TCU CEL came on and the iddle was back to normal, note that all this was expected. However, the car has exceeded our expectations and it is running supper under 4k rpms, IPD has a custom tune for this and by the end of this week, I should have all taken care of "God willing, lol" I have an electronic cut out at 4k RPM's and still runs amazing, however after the IPD tune it should be good to go. I'll keep you updated!

Give Robert (lucky) a call on Monday and ask him what he can do for you!

Thanks,

Jv
