hgray14
I have finally cleared some time in order to engage in what may be the ridiculous project of trying to track down all the remaining Yellow T-5Rs in the U.S. Luckily, a good portion of them are in California, Northern California specifically, including the two in my driveway. So, I need some advice. I would like to get the VINs for them but am wondering if people have the same vibe about VINs as they do about Social Security Numbers. If so, what sequence/portion of the VIN number will be long enough to be car specific without asking for the whole thing?I am going to have a friend design a simple website where people can register their cars, of course with the choice to keep their personal contact information confidential. Just some simple stats like how long they have owned it, how many miles, etc.thanks for your helpHouston

I didn't think there was anything someone could do with your VIN that would cause you to not want to give it out but figured I would check here first.Houston

caliwagon
If you want to do something like a "T-5R Register" then you could probably just use the last couple digit (5 digits, IIRC), which comprise the "chassis number". This is how most registers work. It would definitely be a good idea to check out some of the ways this has been done for other registers. I know there are some other Volvo registers, such as the "240 Classic register" and the "1800 register", and probably others. I remember seeing info on some of the registers on the VCOA website. AlvinL
You've got a challenge in your hands. Those who don't like to give out their car's VIN may be due to letting others knowing the history of their car. Or, they are giving out the VIN because they want to know about the history of a particular car they are interested in buying.

hgray14
This doesnt help but I've seen seven different yellows... all sedans.I want one...No way, that totally helps. Are there around where you live? Once the site is up and running I will print some cards with a brief explanation of what I am trying to do. The more people who have seen them and see them regularly the better chance I have of contacting as many owners as possible.I may have one for sale soon...Houston
