Please Refresh Me On 98-00 V70r Manuals

Recommended Posts

Ok, I had a feeling it was just the T5. So, any year T5 could be had with the manual?

yes, although the vast majority were made in 98, much less in 99, and i believe only a handful were made in 2000.

I still find these numbers hard to believe (I for a fact have seen a manual Laser Blue V70R around town here, but it may be grey market), and the number of T5-M's seems awful low to me.

It doesnt really suprise me that much, Volvo has always marketed to an older crowd until recently with introduction of the c30. I mean alot of buyers that were spending 45k new for a luxury 2000v70r didnt want to have to shift it themselves. I see more older people driving volvos than anyone, that was their marketing crowd until recently. I read a report that on most new cars, they dont have manual trannies as an option anymore the closest thing is that auto-stick b.s. I believe that is the reason they never introduced the 850r manuals in the states. Its all at who they are marketing towards, like honda markets towards teens and makes alot of stick trannies. Americans want to do everything the easy way, reports have shown this in the past. It like the s70 t-5 stick I saw at a small dealership months back with 100k. They started out 5800 hundred and I believe it finally sold for like 3k after about 8 months and it was in pristine condition.

And for the smart guy that was a freaking smokin deal. I would have bought it for that just to put in a garage and sell to you monkeys for $1k profit.

You have to realize the concentration of Volvos in urban areas. It is truly a major PITA to drive a stick in traffic like we have in LA. Sadly, an enormous portion of our lazy american population would end up in the orthopedist office at a huge rate if we had a majority of manuals due to our sad state of physical health. I couldn't find a manual V70R for over 6 months in metro LA.

That said, you should see the TOTAL number of V70R manuals sold in the US in 2007, it ain't pretty.

Laser Blue R were only '99 and '00 and for those years, US and Euro R were only AWD automatics, 4sp for '99 and 5sp '00. Manual R FWD and AWD were only '98 in Europe only. Ask me how I know....:D

Trust me, I know that. Hence why it stood out in my head when I saw it. I saw the car many times, the parents of someone who went to my high school had it, I saw it several times at the school and around town several times.

People with money can get what they want, even if its "Euro only." There are grey market cars floating around.

The reason I find the T5-M figures hard to believe is how many people on here have them, and how many I've seen for sale over the years. Not saying its not possible, but if you look at other cars with that kind of production numbers they're not nearly as readily available (The 1998 figure mainly, doesn't really apply to the other years as much since you do in fact hardly see them...)
