850/s70 Awd In A Turbo?

I think if you're talking over 300bhp, the AWD will not hold up for you; that's what has been implied - you'll snap the bevel gear pinion/output sleeve or driveshaft, if the viscous coupling doesn't disintegrate.

98-00 V70 AWD, XC & R's came with AWD

I'm running my lpt motor w/ a 16T, 15psi, M66 AWD & a T5M ECU (waiting for a remap from IPD on the original ECU)- the advantage to the AWD is that I get less wheel spin & torque steer; power is just transferred to the rear.

What kind of horsepower are you getting? I like the idea of getting the power to the road more efficiently. I am spinning my front tires when I punch it even when I am already rolling up to 10-15 miles per hour plus I ha the torque steer. I learned in my 240Z that power doesn't mean anything if you can't make it stick to the road.

For the record I would be willing to keep it under 300 hp if I could make it work in an AWD. Otherwise I would like to see something in the 350s but only if I can effectively get it to the ground.

If you want good power with an AWD then i would just go out and buy an audi. The Volvo AWD systems suck although you could do a S70 AWD 6-spd with 300HP at the crank with a decent amount of work. Thats not out of the realm of possibilities.

Ya, the GF likes the new Audis...but I am still a big Volvo fan and don't want to switch. Maybe an S60R is in my future. Those are AWD, right and come with about 300hp stock? It looks like IPD can get them up to about 335...it looks like they are concerned about tranny life above that amount. No mention of the AWD system though. So, how is the AWD system in the newer Rs?

But damn it...I sure like the 850/S70 styling.

I haven't measured the output - using IPD's chart as a guide one can extrapolate that with the 16T, remap & 15psi boost it should be in the high 200's -

..I don't know for sure, but I can say that with the M66 AWD trans, it goes likes stuff off the proverbial shovel :)

I'm gonna go to Englishtown at some point - I'm looking forward to see how it holds up.

Those two things don't match. Stick to the M56H with single-mass if you're going to be making serious power.

But yes they did make turbo AWD (LPT and Rs).

Yup, couldnt agree more with you! This is one of the reason why I went FWD M56H, by far the strongest setup. Another gentleman in TX tried to get over 300 out of his 2000 R. Well the AWD just kept raising hell. Then he imported a Manual 850AWD from Canada, and decided to leave this way.

Hopefully Quaife is going to help me get less wheel spin :D

It sounds like you want a '98-00 S70 AWD (LPT) and transplant a t-5 (HPT) into it... FYI 2000 v70R AWD and makes more power then t-5 @ 261hp.

That sounds like what I am looking for as long as the AWD can handle it. Your car looks great...I am just not a huge fan of the wagons even though I think Volvo's are some of the best looking ones. Basically, I was talking with a guy with a V70 AWD of some sort and hearing that he puts down good times at the track...that is what I want but in a sedan version.

Is the wheel base longer on a V70 than an S70? Why can't I just cut and paste the body of an S70 onto a V70??? LOL...ya, I know...unibody cars aren't good for that kind of thing.

I can read a bit of Krout...and that aint it...is that Swedish? Once I saw the word "slutfart" I decided I might not have the stomach to continue searching the site. LOL

If all you want is faster times stay FWD. I run 12s on FWD. To run the same time on AWD takes almost 100 more hp.

I keep hearing that but it is hard to get my head wrapped around.

If the AWD is working and you have it side by side with a FWD with the same HP...it seems like the AWD would have an easier time getting the power to the ground, hence faster times, right?

I know...that is assuming the AWD system doesn't crap out, which I keep hearing it will.

I think someone needs to introduce you to better tires so you stop wasting time with this AWD idea.

Hgray meet BFG drag radial.

Ya you are probably right...but the security of AWD while driving around the Sierras during the winter would be nice too.

I like those drag radials though...I might need something more driveable on a daily basis...or else another set of Volans...those for dry days and others for wet days.
