Mbc Vs Ebc

My Greddy profec spec II is much more accurate and holds boost better then my manual one did. Most guys on here state they get better response when going to an EBC or MBC. MBCs are cheap and generally pretty effective. EBCs allow you to change boost on the fly and for me are much more accurate. If just using a chip and exhaust you probably don't 'need' one but like I said before, it has been stated that they provide quicker response. I wouldn't know about the response thing, my BCS/TCV hasn't worked for quite a while.

I was wondering if anyone could educate me on boost controllers? Who needs one and whats the best out there?

First, fill out your sig with your car info. This helps us help you. Then put a location in your profile, someone may live near you that could help you some day. Then read all the pinned posts at the top of each forum, tons of info there and will answer a lot of your questions. Then use the search function on the bottom of the page, just check VolvoSpeed. And read, read, read.

We will help you as much as we can, but we like it when you help yourself. These topics have all been discussed in detail for years here. If you can't find what you need, and you made a legitimate effort to educate yourself, then you will get more help than you can handle. We were all new here at one time, and we all got the same lecture. Now go do your homework, and you will be rewarded with the beautiful white light of glory and Volvo knowledge deeper than you could have imagined. :D

Or I could just read your post history in your profile!

Oh yeah, welcome to the Forum, there is a great bunch of people on this site. Almost forgot, watch out for Chuck, he eats noobs raw with ketchup!  Oh shit, here he comes, I'm outta here!

P.S.--Hallman RX MBC, try E-bay----After you learn about them, ( Improperly implemented, they could damage your car)!!

I'v got the Hallman Pro RX and love it, on another note I have my car at roughly 14.5 pounds running perfect and boost cut is around 15 pounds so its really not a problem unless you get rid of your boost cut and go over 15 pounds.

So what do you need to get over 15 lbs of boost? injectors, ecu.....?

Where do you guys mount the mbc? I was thinking with enough vacuum hose that I could run it some place under the dash or on top/around the steering wheel.

A tune is the most reliable way. Exhaust won't hurt. Injectors aren't need until you upgrade the turbo. This is talking about an 850 t5 or r.

t5, sorry

I mounted my MBC when I had it on the top engine mount that comes off the firewall. Ziptied and all. They sell MBCs that can be adjusted from the cabin. But at that point you may as well just go the route of the EBC in my opinion. Not sure how running your standard 20 dollar MBC into the cabin would work as far as efficiency.

So if you have a tune running at a certain psi can it be raised higher with a m/ebc? Is a boost controller a cheap and primitave substitute for a tune? I'm just trying to understand when one would be needed.

Nothing is a substitute for a tune, the m/ebc can raise the boost higher or lower than the tune but its not recommended. The M/Ebc will allow to build boost faster. The tune does more than raise boost.

A very primitive and in some cases dangerous substitute for a tune. A Speedtuning chip or similar tune is your best bet in my opinion. A lot of people up the boost with an MBC and no tune and are fine but I don't advocate it.
