Mbc Vs Ebc

Nothing is a substitute for a tune, the m/ebc can raise the boost higher or lower than the tune but its not recommended. The M/Ebc will allow to build boost faster. The tune does more than raise boost.

Do you know how it raises boost faster? What it does mechanically? Can you turn it up at such a low rpm that you can damage internals? Thanks

The internal damage would come from messing with the AFR by increasing the amount of air and not compensating with increased fuel. You should be fine with the quicker boost at lower rpms to a point.

When 15-17psi on the 15g no longer makes you happy. An 18t/19t, blue injectors, and exhaust provide for a very fun daily driver. I'd first look into getting a chip and exhaust though. That should do plenty for the short term. The nice thing about a chipped ecu is you can almost always recoup quite a bit of the initial money spent on them which in turn can fund a larger upgrade.

If you don't want to go with a cheaper company like Speed tuning, keep your eye on the for sale forum as tunes can pop up there for a good price.

I'll have to disagree.

First. Exhaust

Second: MBC

Third: ECU

Thats what I did...

Here is my MBC setup I love it... but it is much more than you want to spend for a MBC...

I mounted the MBC and solenoid inside the EST Intake set up...

Then since it was a dual stage a got a switch to toggle inside the car...

a tune is not necessary for anything 15 pounds or less, I would recomend getting a cheap boost controller and a boost gauge, turn it up to 15 pounds and see if you like it before you spend alot more money on a tune.

That's fine. However without a tune you are not getting everything you can out of the car or your mods. From Woth R-line:

"For an air mass controlled system the boost pressure will be affected by anything between the MAF and the tailpipe that can lower or raise the pressure ratio. If you lower the back pressure in the exhaust system or the pressure ratio over the engine, boost pressure will be lowered and if you increase back pressure or pressure ratio the boost pressure will be higher, but engine performance will more or less be the same."

The tune is the most substantial thing you can do as far as power increases within given limits. It is also the safest and most reliable way.

I deffinatley agree that you will never see your cars max potential without a tune however you will be able to have a noticable difference in power by doing a mbc even if the car isnt at its highest possible potential.

It's the order of upgrade part. You'll want to free up the exhaust first before getting an ECU. In addition, the tune ecu will have an advantage for better optimizing of current stage rather than getting a ecu tune before exhaust upgrade.
