What do you have for a computer? if you have a newer computer then yeah its probably SATA but if its older then it could possibly be IDE...

You might not have a problem with your hard drive either. Windows will sometimes get issues and the error will state hard drive when its really a file corruption. Ive reinstalled windows many times from "hardware errors" and it was fine after.

Samsung isnt bad, i would look into Maxtor, WD or Hitachi as well. 500GB!! do you think you need all that space? I do a stuff ton with computers and dont really require to much more then 300GB but i also dont do video..

Stay away from seagate!! thats the best advice i can give you... they fail prematurely plus ive found them to have more noise issues then other HDs. cheap though!

interesting..........noise really doesnt bother me and i was going for cheap. nothin important on it so im not worried if it craps out. and by prematurely failing, time frame? just curious.

this is just my experience from building many different systems while also repairing systems. Its not a massive deal but when your talking about 20-40 bucks here and there its worth going with a good company. I've stock with maxtor for desktops and toshiba for laptops. Maxtor really takes good care of their customers and I've never had an issue with their drives.

Seagate purchased Maxtor for $1.9B back in 2005 and many Maxtors are now rebadged Seagates.

Newegg.com is a great source for any PC disposables.

I've used Maxtor drives since the 90's - and have only ever had two fail - both were covered under their warranty (used to come with 3 year).

I'd still go with Maxtor over Seagate, even if they were bought out by them.

Hard drives are usually only good for around three years anyway - especially if you're doing any heavy graphic work - probably less if you're doing video - I wouldn't use the main system drive for anything like that, it's asking fro trouble - get an external or add additional internal drives purely for crunching audio/video/graphics.

damn, this shoes you how long I've been out of the game for. 05-06 was when I found OS X and ended up selling off all my windows based hardware and working just with OS X. No more pain and suffering :-)

It's a very wise choice, ive had a lot of people come to me about computer questions since all my family and friends know that im the "computer wize". I tell them to buy a Mac and they always give me "its to expensive" or the great one is "I dont know how to use a mac" my responds to both is that macs are on par if not cheaper then most windows computers. As for the "I dont know how to use a mac" haha this one is great because anyone i talk to dont even know how to use windows, they surf the internet and have hundreds off photos scattered in there documents folder, thats all they do. So if you dont know how to use windows in the first place what will it hurt to use a mac?

I also get the "but they are just for photos and video stuff" bull stuff! I just got one of my old bosses to buy an iMac to run his business on. I worked him through getting it all set up with finance software and what not. Now he wont even touch his dell plus he has more free time with his kids since he doesnt have to fix the windows system every week.

Anyway, you are right about the price, thats not all that bad!! whatever you get will work just fine for you since the price per gig these days is great!!

Please don't start the Mac / PC debate...it'll never end.

I wouldn't do anything with Compusa. I wouldn't even buy toilet paper from them.
