hgray14
I purchased a mesh grill for my 1995 850 Turbo through ebay. It arrived and looks great on the car but my problem is the weird little metal peice that I am supposing is for the safety latch release. It came with no instructions and no matter how I attach it it seems to be so tight that it actually pulls inward on the grill which makes the top trim bend down and away from the lip of the hood but worse than that it is holding the latch so far forward that it no longer catches. Has anyone had this same problem? Or is there a better solution to the safety latch? I am not willing in to drive around without it.not sure what the link posting policy is but here it is:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GRILLE-volv...sspagenameZWDVWWow! I just got off the phone with Carpartswholesale.com and get this...they don't have instructions and they are suggesting that I go to a mechanic to figure it out. Can you believe that?!?!?! No mention on the auction that instructions are not included and then they are telling me to go pay a mechanic to figure how a part that they supply with their grill should fit. Unbelievable. thanksHouston

Oh well. Now that I see how much I saved over IPD I think I will quit my bitching and just figure something out. For the $100 savings I will run a damn wire loop through the grill if I have to. FINN
I ran a wire with mine for a while, untill i took off the safety latch. Now my hood pops open from the inside in one step.
ErikS
The only reason I got the one I did was fit and finish. How many grills out there will fit absolutly perfectly and exactly match a unique Volvo paint code?

Volvoson
hood stays securely attached while car is running?Middle latch doesn't do anything while the 2 side latches are holding it shut. Once those are released, that puts pressure on the middle "safety" latch to prevent it from opening.
Redux
re: OP, i think i got mine from the same seller as yours. grille came with a missing tab so one corner of the grille sticks out gonna have to zip tie it or sth

Not a pretty sight. Even @ 30 odd it'll wrap over the windshield & pound your roof - nevermind the fact that you can't see stuff - ask me how I know. I am with you; I am not comfortable (especially at the speeds I drive) to run without a safety latch.I finally gave up on trying to make the pull perminent in my grill. I simple cut a small peice of coat hanger and bent it perfectly so that when I want to open the safety latch I just slip it in the grill and it does the trick. It is actually kind of nice not to have anything sticking out of the grill.
