before i get flamed,i just have a few questions., i have already done research and im getting mixed answers, but i am planning on buying a 95 o 96 850 volvo and i see that i slot for the cd player i double sized and i want to get a double size dvd player, but all the web sites i go to say they will not fit, but i have seen 850's on car domain and some other sites that have them installed. for example will this on fit ?

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...tures_and_specs

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Ite...VX710&tp=75

in my brothers car his radio size is width 7" 1/2 and height 4" 3/4 more or less. and the one in the link above is w 7" d 7.5" h 3.9" what gets me is i dont see why the web site says it wont fit if the volvo stock cd player is a little bit bigger.......!!!!!????

anyone that has them installed do you have any advice etc...

any help would be greatly appriciated

it's going to take custom work no matter what. there is no adapter or anything to fit a DD(double DIN) unit into our dashes, but any DD unit WILL fit.

by custom work, we mean grinding the left and right sides of the radio cavity out a bit, and figuring out a way to keep it still, like using a backstrap or something.

I have a DD unit in my 855. what i did is I disassembled the stock stereo, and screwed its side plates to the sides of my new unit, so i could still use the "pulling keys" to slide the new stereo out. good luck!

going to any shop, they will charge you a lot, because it's simply a custom job every time. DIY and save money!

i was wondering what didt you use to trim the sides of the radio cavity? would you be able to give me a little advice on what else you did to make it clean? i dont have the car yet so i cant experiment i can only look at my brothers car and try to get some ideas. i am a perfectionest i want everything perfect so if anybody has DO'S and DONT'S can you please let me no?

and since i dont no how to install cd players etc... i can only just prep it before i take it to get installed, because im gonna also get my subs and amp installed at the same time. but im sure when i get the new HU and trim it etc and make sure it fits and take it in would that be fine?

thank you.

i literally took a flat wood file and filed down the inner walls of the stereo cavity.

tips on making it clean: be a perfectionist (hey, you already are, imagine that!).

seriously, it's your car, if you mess up or rush the job, it's your fault. on the other hand, if you desire that it come out clean, and you do everything possible to ensure such, it will.

cd player install is EASY. seriously, just do a search on the board. every company that sells wire harnesses makes harnesses for volvos, do it.
