Obdii Readiness

Recommended Posts

Matt, I'll be heading down past your doorstep on July 2nd on the way to Tampa. Will you be around? I may have a trip pop up between now and then too, but nothing planned.

PM'ed you my cell number.

I didn't know you could put a T5 ECU into a LPT GLT. Doesn't taking out the ECU disconnect it from +12V and make it not ready anyway? I use to get a CEL for a bad SAS valve, and I'd just pull out the ECU for a minute to get rid of the CEL. I finally got tired of pulling the ECU and replaced the valve!

That's what I'm running now, runs like a raped ape.

Not sure why you're this excited about it either, but it's funny.

Basically, I hit the same boost as every T5 on the road but I have a nice low-end torque curve with that engine. IMO, having driven both for a while, I'd rather have a the LPT block-T5 ECU combo than the HPT block-T5 ECU.

So what boost are you running on the 13g with the T-5 ECU? or did you swap to the 15g also?

Gauge is dying, so not quite sure. But after some cleaning of the gauge last night, I saw 12 psi on my 16T. I guess that's what should be expected on this combo.

so what would you expect from a t5 ecu and a 13g? (still broke from buying the damn car :D )

I'm still unsure about this 'mod'. From what I know, all '97 850 GLT LPT's have SAS. VERY few '97 850 T5's have the SAS. And very few early '98 S70 T5's have SAS. If you take an ECU from a '97 850 T5 without SAS and put it in a GLT LPT with SAS, does that just mean your SAS is ignored, or will it trigger a CEL?

Very similar results. Honestly, the 16T did not feel THAT much different, the ECU was the biggest difference.

If you're going from a 97 to a 97, you'll be fine. You start having CEL's when you cross the EGR gap and try to run a post 95 ECU in a pre 95 car, or vice versa.

This is way more confusing than I thought it would be. I see T-5 ECU's on here and ebay a lot and I would like to do the swap. I don't care about the CEL because the damn thing has been on since I got it and I just passed emissions so I am good for almost 2 years now. Can EGR and SAS be removed if I get an older ECU and still have the car run properly? I know I have SAS but do I have EGR also? According to V@dis it looks like there were 2 options for the GLT one with and one without.

You have SAS or EGR, not both.

I am running an ECU from the UK, and my SAS has been unsused since. It is not recognized by that ECU and doesn't trigger a CEL. Run whatever ECU you want if CEL's aren't an issue!

so a 98 t5 would work then as well? Mine has the motronic 4.4 i believe, which came out in 97. I have no idea what that means tho as far as swapping a 4.4 for the 4.3, and the potential ease of adding some hp while my wallet recovers is tempting.

Not true. Ive used a 98 S70 NA ecu in my 96 NA 850 and other than a CEL it worked.

Im sure we discussed this a while ago and this is one of those myths floating around....

Of course 99 ie motronic 7 is a diff beast.

I deleted the PM, but when Gary tried to turn the AC on his 97 with a 98 ECU, nothing happened. Not saying it won't crank, just saying it'll get warm.
