Single Vertical Wiper

Doesn't work as well in heavy rain, simply because a single wiper doesn't wipe fast enough.

the single blades on those old mercedes wipes fast enough. it's a pretty violent wipe. so much so, any bystanders/vehicles at the side view mirror area will get soaked.

there is a how to on i believe V70R.com(?) or a british volvo site... what is it, ukt5.com or something?

wrong. modification makes the assembly simlilar to the wagon's rear wiper. it will do the full 180 degrees.

i guess no one listens to me. it's on t5d5.org.

i wonder if that would work better with heavy snow... because the way the two blades are set up, everything cleared by the passenger side blade during the up stroke gets left in the middle of the windshield and then gets packed down to the bottom of the windshield by the drivers side blade during the down stroke. with heavy wet snow this can cause such a buildup of snow where the drivers side wiper is supposed to sit that it stalls it when its at the bottom of its stroke. a single wiper would at least disperse the snow to both sides instead of packing it all down in the same place

I stopped reading at

the single wiper does hit/tap the edge of the bonnet as it sweeps across the drivers side & has made a small mark in the paint about the size of a stone-chip

What you want:

Set it to 80 degrees and be happy.

thanks for that link. I was just saying people wanted to see how it was done. at least you could get it to stop in the middle of the windshield if you wanted. You can also do the ricer style and just reclock the right side. (I believe Bill the locksmith did this)

Its funny that the ricer way is how 90% of the race cars do in. Have not seen straight up in years. Beyond that if you really want the race look the arm would be in the backseat mounted to a quick release and would only go on in the rain.

if youve ever seen the mercedes wipers, they actually follow a patern, by this i mean that the wiper arm rides on a track that looks like an M the reason for this is so the arm extends to get the corners of the windshield but then retracts a bit so it doesnt run off the top of the window. imagine having a pin near the bottom of the wiper that rode in a track shaped like an M it would go straight up, then retract then extend again to get the entire windshield. The mercedes system works very well, on my friends 190 i thought it looked pretty sweet! does everyone understand what im trying to say?

interesting. Don't let the ricers find out they're doing something right...

yeah, I know exactly what you're trying to say. Maybe it's because I've seen them and thought about doing this mod myself :P

wipers-124.gif in the picture you can see the assembly of the wiper track. I considered purchasing this to see if it could be modified to fit and use on an 850.
