neworleans
Hello everyone,I just bought a 2000 Volvo s80 t6 two weeks ago and yesterday when I wanted to start it, it didn't start. I popped up the hood and checked the battery connections first then noticed the fan was still running very slowly so I realized that it drained the battery.I am thinking that it could be a relay problem.. I checked the owners manual to see which relay is for radiator fan but it doesn't say.Do you think this is a relay problem?, if so, can you tell me which relay is to change showing with some pics please??If not, what do you think is the problem??I appericiate your time and help. SkyWriter
on a hot day, or a hard run the fan will continue running. it shouldn't drain the battery unless the battery was on it's way out already. check the voltage, while the car is on and off, you'll get an idea if the alternative or regulator may be the problem as well.stock alternator is 120amp. you can replace it with a 160 amp if you have plan for power hungry additions. DonutsDemise
i believe the fan relay is on top of the fan below the upper radiator support. if you follow the power wires from the fan they will lead you to the relay. when had you driven your car last before you went to start it up? the fan will run when you turn your car off if it's hot enough but it shouldn't kill the battery. i would have to agree that the battery is probably the problem. how old is it? neworleans
I drove to work which is not even a mile away from my apt. at around 7am in the morning and I wanted to go home for lunch around 11.30am and when I wanted to started, it was dead, I opened the hood and realized that fan was still running but very slowly, so I realized that it drained the battery... I was thinking about the relay but actually didn't know where the relay was, i thought it could be in the fuse box, but you said that it is somewhere around the fan... The other thing is, there is a recall for the fan so I am planning to go to the volvo dealer tomorrow at lunch and ask about it to see if my car is available for that recall, if not i think it is the relay....I know that it keeps running up to 6 minutes after shutoff but not 4.5 hours is there anyway for you to take a picture of that relay and show it to me so I will know what to look for and what it looks like? I appreciate your help...by the way it is 2000 S80 T6,
