Serpentine Belt Oddity

RE: my 1995 850 (non-turbo). I just discovered today that my 850 does not take the conventional Volvo-brand serpentine belt. I tried to put it on today and it's about four-inches too big when held up to the old one. The old one has a worn off Volvo part #. I called the dealership, read them that part number off the existing belt which fits correctly and it turns out that belt fits a 960 and an S70, but not an 850. There have been no modifications to the engine and the car does have A/C of course. Has anyone else encountered this?

the new belt may have an updated routing path....on my s70 a while back they changed the routing for better grab on the alt. pulley which made the belt longer

There is a routing change for the belt but the length is the same. Sounds like they just gave you the wrong belt.

New belt is longer , they gave you the right belt you just need to find the updated pulley diagram

I thought maybe that was the case, that happened with model year 1993 too. I asked them that at the parts counter, but they said there was no routing change. The guys at this dealership are very knowledgeable too, always the same five people there year after year. I'll check the TSBs again. Thanks.
