Evap Leaks, P0442, P0455 Small And Large

98S70GLT,

Well here's another post of those same dreaded dang codes. Some people find them easier to fix than others. For myself it's turning out to be one big fiasco.

As a hands on tech I refuse to let this problem take over me.

As my list continues with time. I replaced the Purge Valve, Gas tank filler neck gasket and collet, including the rollover valve, new in tank fuel pump gasket, Replaced gas cap, tried stock with new gasket, repaired "J" hoses off the carbon box. Tried to clean and repair one check valve, I don't know the true results if it worked.

Obviously I should go out and find new a check valve.

However My code P0455 keeps coming back to annoy me.

A new observation of gas coming from on top of the tank concerns me again.

So I had a little time this week to investigate the tank, the gas smell is most potent at the top of the tank by the filler tube entrance. The only location where you'd be able to sick your head all the way up anyhow.

From the pictures you can make out which hoses go where. The hose I would assume would be the one coming from the charcoal box that is wrapped with electrical tape. (Probably to keep the static down) This is the return vapor line to the tank.

Now I have read of over filling will cause leaks on some cars, but for Evap would this be a strange thing than common?

Is there a particular place to watch out for be sides the pump location?

I didn't have enough time to really get involved that's later this weekend.

And where is the vacuum gauge depicting evap codes anyhow. Is that on the tank?

Let me know if you do find something interesting, seems we have something in common in that area.
