Oil Loss + 1000 Miles

Recommended Posts

So on my cross country voyage, i managed to hit massive construction in Indiana and (im guessing) knocked my dipstick out of the holder when my 850 caught air. Now being one to always finish what ive started, i didnt stop driving till wyoming, where i notice that i was about 3 quarts low... turns out most of it was on the underside of my hood/under my car/all over my engine. I promptly refilled the oil but i had driven just about 1000 miles since where i think the incident happened. When i finished my trip (still had 300 more miles to go) the engine sounded fine, preformed fine. However, yesterday i started it up and the idle was off, not like i installed heavy cams off, but after driving this car for 7 years, the car just seemed off. What type of problems am i looking at here/ am I screwed?

Not to worry!! You forgot that you are above 6000 feet in altitude. That makes all of the difference. It will be a little sluggish off the line also, so be careful when flooring it to cross a major street and give yourself a lot of room. A slowly applied throttle is faster than sudden WOT.

I agree, while in CO at 6,000 ft. my XC was a dog from the line, car felt like I had an elephant in the backseat.. Have to definitely plan on taking a bunch more seconds to pull out into the intersection.

it's not block related, so you can breathe a sigh of relief there.

I would check vac lines and sensors for something getting knocked loose or broken.

Check the bottom of the intercooler for cracks, ripped hose, sometihng of the sort, check the charcoal canister, etc....could be a bolt loosened somewhere, or a line came off with the jerk of the engine when you hit the construction.

If you had that much oil vapor under the hood, maybe you clogged your air filter? Did you check that?
