Tuning The V70r Awd

Hiya NEU,

Thanks for the welcome. The exchange rate is interesting for the minute, but the French government hammer us again on stuff arriving from the US - 20% import tax plus 19.6% TVA (no, I'm not joking).

I want to get the ECU re-mapped after I've done the other mods to get it right from day one. Probably just a sports "muffler" (I love American terminology :) ) well, all the way to the turbo actually when I get time to make one and a performance filter. And that begs another question;

Does removing the cat give any noticable performance gains? Or is it better left in there? I only have a lambda before the cat so can't see any agg getting rid of it...(plus I've got a gypsy that gives me 80€ per used cat :D )

Also, how did you upload photos direct here - someone mentioned photobucket, but you managed it...am I really that dumb??

Regards,

Rex

Hi Mike,

Oi! That's the same as mine right down to the window tint!

If I ever work out how to up-load a photo direct here you'll see my Atomic Pumpkin :D Love it.

"I'm currently working on a custom tune for a 18t(auto though )"

Eeew. Don't the auto 'boxes have a habit of imploding after modifications? To be honest I've never driven a T5 auto, but I'm sure it's horrid. The only vehicle I ever owned where I prefered the auto 'box was a 996....and that, believe me, is better on all points than their 6 speed stick.

Thanks again for the replies and good evening!

as you know, its all about maintenance on a volvo. my tune should come in around 1.2 bar and the tranny should hold. if i turn it up more i might get a tranny cooler. i don't mind an auto. gives a chance to put my arn on the pass head rest and look cool. lol.

search photobucket on here and there's a thread on how to do pics by oreo. if i find it first i'll get you it.

When you upload the photos into your album on photobucket, there is a "direct link" tab on the bottom. Clicking that will copy it for you and you can "insert image" in the reply screen. That should work.

I've gotten around that by shipping to the UK or Holland, and then re-shipping from there to France. But I don't know that I took every law into account...

Well if I were you I would fly to the US and take your parts home in your suit case... (I did that with Vespa parts from Italy years ago) It has to be cheaper the all the taxes they throw on you... Or take a trip to anther country to get your parts... I'm sure you could smuggle them in ;)

I haven't heard of too many folks running without a cat, I can't because I've got 2 O2 sensors, before and after the cat. I thought most of them did, but maybe earlier AWD R's don't...

For photos, its easy to just buy a membership, and then problem solved, (Chuck should be paying me for the plug :D:lol: ) I was running into the same problem but if you go to "My album" in the upper right hand corner then create a new ablum you can load some images into it, but the you only have a limited size you can upload, but when your a member you can do a lot of them... And again for you the exchange rate is ridiculus so it should be $2 or something low...

For the cat: I've been told that Euro cars don't have the second O2 sensor. The ECU's I've brought from the UK weren't mapped for air pumps and did not have any rear O2 settings, from what I could tell.

I'm assuming the trend continued in 98.

Alright guys, there's some pictures you should be able to see in my album here taken in front of my garage. Thanks to you all for trying to help me post photo's, but I can be a bit retarded when it comes to the 'net

Mike;

"gives a chance to put my arn on the pass head rest and look cool. lol."

LOL - I'm 29 and everyone has asked me why I'm driving an old man's car......until they've either been in it, or blown away by it that is :D

I take it the oil temp in the auto 'box is the reason for trouble when modified?

NEU,

"I've gotten around that by shipping to the UK or Holland, and then re-shipping from there to France. But I don't know that I took every law into account... "

Heh :) Tax evasion is a god given human right. The problem in the UK is 20% import tax, again, but only 17.5% VAT. It's still shocking. I've screwed 'em a few times if the sender will write "gift" on the package, but let's face it, they 'aint daft!

Matt,

I think later Volvo's have both lambda sensors even in the UK.Never seen one with American style air pumps either. Talk later,

Regards to all, Rex

"So you have a UK saffron in France? Is that lowered or just the Euro suspension that sits so low... Looks nice..."

Thanks, NEU!

Yes, it's a RHD Volvo in France. Firstly, hardly any T5's in France full stop - nearly everyone has a smoker here. Secondly, cars are so much cheaper in the UK due to the blood-thirsty French government taking 19.6% TVA on used cars (I'm not joking here either). I bought this baby as salvage - she was apparently involved in last years flooding in the UK so there been a few issues.

Suspension is all standard Volvo, but compared to the FWD V70 T5 I sold, it sits on the road soooooo much better, especially on the skinny back-roads we have here. The only downside to this baby, is that she doesn't leave black marks down the road in 3rd gear, but I'm hoping to change that :D

The centre bearing on the rear prop has gone alas, but I've found someone in the UK who will cut and shut it, rather than giving Volvo 700€ plus tax for the whole prop. The only stumbling block right now is the fron anti-roll bar bushes - they're bonded to the bar and Volvo, again, want to sell me the whole roll bar......

....doesn't anyone make uprated polyurethane bushes in the states? Nothing here :(

Ciau, Rex

Also, a free bottle of decent rouge to anyone who can guess what the vanity plate means ;)

Another flood salvage R... You need to speak with Justin (Zohan) and his v70 GLT-R :D:lol:

Yes they make universal poly sway bar bushings but you have to melt off the original and take the bar out of the car if your going to do all that work, just get the IPD bars, they work WONDERS!

Water only went up to the ankles!

It still fried the amp (which I just mended) and stank very, very badly until I had it professionally valeted. The alacantara drivers seat is a bit worn, as is the steering wheel, but the missus will be attacking that when we find some material the right colour!

I'll google IPD see what I come up with.

Cheers!

PS I like the "Atomic Pumpkin" so much I've taken the liberty of translating it to French.

Vivre La Citrouille Atomique!!!
