Ipd Exhaust Stystem

Hey all.... Just wondering if anyone who is running the iPD system (cat back) has taken off their second silencer and what sound differences they can hear, both inside and outside. I really would like a more aggressive sound, just wondering if this would help. Also, possibly taking the iPD muffler off and swapping for something a little more "throaty-sounding." Thoughts, suggestions? TIA.

I've taken the IPD system and installed it without the rear silencer and tip. Never had it on the car with both silencers so i can't tell you what the differance is.

It has that strange/different 5 cylindernote, (which I like) especially at idle and never gets loud at higher revs just...............Can't really describ it since I'm always in the car. But sounds good.

IMHO it makes no sence to buy the system and scrap an expensive part. As I posted recently, go to a good exhaust shop and they'll make whatever you want.

If someone complains that most shops can't do mandrel bends forget it, cause the small differance wont be noticed with less than heavy mods and then only on a dyno.

Good luck and have fun.

I had an IPD/TME 2.5" cat-back exhaust system on my '99 C70. It sounded and performed great. Recently, I built a full-custom system for my car... 3" turbo-back (with a cat... I don't like CELs) to a dump valve out the passenger's side (kicks everything out the side when the dump valve is open, or through the rest of the system when it's closed) then through a Spintech sportsman street muffler (see drgas.com), over the rear axle, and out through two 2.25" glasspacks out twin tailpipes (yes, that means I have a dual exhaust on my C70). I absolutely love the system with only a minor complaint. I put the dump valve in so I could run full-open when I want loudness and performance, and have things quiet as stock when I don't. The spintech muffler flows well and sounds awesome... nice and deep like a flowmaster, fairly quiet a cruise but it growls like a SOB when you stomp on it. Only problem is, it resonates a bit at certain RPMs. There are other mufflers I would have preferred to use, but because of space restrictions, they just won't fit (just about anything over 13" case length is too long). Because of the glasspacks in the back, that resonation isn't cancelled out very well, just muffled a bit. The second "silencer" on the IPD exhaust is actually a resonator... that allows the gasses to exit and then rejoin the flow, cancelling out some of those pulses that cause the resonation.

If you are really interested in something a little more "throaty-sounding" and are willing to accept a bit more resonation (which might end up cancelled out by the "second silencer" if you leave it on, which should not cause much of a performance drop) then perhaps you'll consider trading mufflers with me. I liked how quiet the IPD system was when I did have it, and I'd like to get back to that. I'm pretty certain they would be a similar fit... the Spintech muffler has a 12" case length. Anyways, think it over and drop me a line.

The thing Is I already have the iPD system, I'm just looking to make it sound a bit more manly. I think I'll go the exhaust shop route and see what I can do with it.

Thanks guys.
