S70Driva
I've noticed a tremendous amount of power steering fluid leaking from the passenger side of my 1999 S70 sedan's steering rack, specifically out of the rubber boot. Is this a sign that just the boot is bad, or the seal in the actual rack is bad? Is the boot used to actually contain the fluid or is it used strictly to keep the pignion clear of dirt and debris? dmelviØØ7
Boot is just to keep dust out. Sounds like you need a rack :(

Rack exchange is fairly easy. Rebuilt racks are available for about $250.00. I believe Bay 13 has good instructions for changing rack. In my case removing rack mounting bolts before getting the rack out made it a lot easier. I didn"t realize the bolts were removable until I received the new rack. New hydraulic line connection seals are a must. I tried to reuse existing and ended up with a leak. Connections are sort of a PITA to make and I had to do it twice. Good luck
