Splitting Din 6-pin Amp-out

First of all i want to excuse myself for my english. If i make any mistakes, please excuse me, but i am from switzerland and try to do my best :D

But now to my little Problem:

I got a 1996 850R with the Superb Premium Sound System. Some weeks ago i have gotten an offer for a sony AMP and Woofer and just bought it with the idea to change the Radio then to an iPhone-compatible Pioneer Head-Unit.

When looking behind the Radio i have found the already known AMP-OUT connection which goes to the 200W amp which is going to the 4 door-speakers of the car.

I have now 2 options to go:

Option 1: Split the original Din 6-Pin connector and connect the sony amp to front rear / front right. This should work right? I want to split both, because i dont want that one speaker is louder than the other side.

Option 2: Solder the Din 6-Pin to 4 Cinch-RCA-Plugs (or whatever they are called, you know what i mean) and plug them into the new Pioneer HU (which i have not already bougt, but would maybe buy). The Pioneer HU has 4 Outs at the back, i think they can be used as Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left and Rear Right, dont they?

Are only the 4 door speakers going to the original Volvo amp? Where is it located? Could i also only plug the second amp behind the first one and then set it up into the "High Input Port".

Would be really great if somebody could help me. I have already read most of the posts about this subject but i need to go secure before, for example, buying a new Pioneer HU for more than 400$...

Kind regards from Switzerland

Nope, it is not under the front seats. It seems to be anywhere behind the actual radio in the dashboard. I have got a HEYNES manual, but because the Premium Sound System was an optional thing on normal Turbo 850's, there is no description about it...

premium sound system with the center speaker? i dunno if thats on the 850, but for sure on a x70. those amps are located underneath the radio, behind the center console in front of the heater core. but thats on a x70 i dunno about an 850.

you can't daisy chain the stock amp with the after market one if thats what you're asking. i basically got rid of the stock amp and hardwired all my speaker directly to the amp, but i replaced all my speakers too.

Could you please explain me what "daisy chain" means. Hook them one after the other?

yes.

I'd honestly suggest a different amp and speakers as sony doesn't sound that good to me.

Euro speakers are much crisper n sweeter sounding and probably much cheaper there.

Infinity are nice also.

Many choices.

I would just use the wiring at the amp and not the radio also.

Find the inputs to the amp.

according to this , the premium system has more than one amp.

cannot find location on vadis, but either in under front, rear seat or near the spare tyre also maybe.

u'r looking for this... doesn't really say where it is, but this is what vadis gives

anyway, what kind of pioneer unit do you have? if you plan on using the sony amp and woofer, and would really like to keep the stock amp and speakers, i suggest option 3.

find a pioneer (iphone capable as u mentioned) with 3 sets of pre-amp outputs, instead of 2. go ahead with your idea of soldering a 6-pin din with the requisite rca jacks as well as the ground and remote turn on. u need this last one if u don't want to drain your battery. connect this new modified pin to 2 sets of the preamp outs as usual, fr,fl,rr,rl, etc.

then, grab ur sony amp, and conncect the last remaining set of preamp out to it. and find somewhere to put the new woofer as well.

darn, hahah, u beat me to it

Thanks for your replies.

Actually i know, that the sony amp and woofer are not the best things to get, but they were that cheap and look great. So i try them, if i am not satisfied i can still get something else.

First i will try to split 3 of the din 6-pin connectors and try to wire it to the second amp. The 850R has only one original amp as i know, anywhere behind the center console.

Why 3 and not 2? I will also split the 12V cable which switches the amp on. So the original amp and the sony amp will be enabled/disabled.

I Will let you know, if it works next sunday hopefully. Or maybe next week.

Life is great. It is unbeliebable, but all i had to do is RIP OUT THE poking VOLVO 200W AMP!

When you rip out the whole "Premium Sound System" you have the same two connectors which every normal Volvo has. Plug in a Volvo-to-Din interface and you are ready to rumble with your new radio. No need of solering, nothing.

If you want to completely remove the Premium sound System, you can also lift the carpet on the left driver foot side and on the passenger foot side away and remove the amplifier. It is secured with 2 screws on a mounting and this mounting is also secured by 3 screws.

You also have to remove the cover uner the glove box and that one under the steering wheel.

I think this should get sticky, because i have seen just so many people looking for a solution without soldering. It is not that easy, but i were able to do it and i am a chef, so all tools i know are knifes :P

Pictures will follow, but if anybody need a Volvo Hu and Amp, i got one for sale :D
