K&n Cold Air Intake On A Non-turbo 850?

Recommended Posts

on pretty much every website i've visited, they all say that the K&N cold air intake or even the ipd cold air intake is for the 2.3L turbo engine. what would happen if i installed it into my naturally aspirated 2.4L 850?

It wouldnt fit. Your intake tube comes from a different direction/angle and wouldnt work with the heat sheild. You could always cut another hole I guess.

Best bet is to get a K&N flat panel filter for the current airbox, make your own heatsheild, or wait for the ipd unit. Depends on how much patience you have.

Thats a stupid looking intake. Anybody else notice that both the "stock" and modified runs in the videos had the same heat shield installed? And whats the point of testing a heat shielded "short ram" intake with the hood open?

K&N is unadulterated garbage.

Nothing will happen, your car will go exactly the same speed :) Buy some beer instead

That's actually a good point, hence the reason we didn't change out the heat shield during runs.

The freer flowing intake filter was the only real gain so far as a dyno test is concerned.

Quite honestly for the power we made and the effort we spent to get there I wouldn't think it was worth it but many folks have been requesting an N/A intake similar to the turbo version we made.

And, as pic'd above you can see how much chopping it took to make it work.

So, given some spare time (haha) I'll be working on designing a N/A version in the future.

If you guys want to offer a product with noticeable performance gains for na 850/S70, give them a package with a 960 throttle plate, fixed airbox preheated and a 3.25"intake tube attach to the stock airbox.

But I can see IPD's position. The customer gets what the customer wants.
