I Need A New Tint Job

Recommended Posts

Okay, so this is the second time I've been cited for "extensive tint." I'm thinking this crap is getting old so I'm gonna retint. I remember a few guys saying I could tint the windshield 60-70% and it wouldn't affect my visibility at night, but I could do the rest at the legal limit and it would have the same effect as a dark tint. He put the tint meter on and it registered 6% on the front and 5% on the rear. Tintlaws.com says the legal limit in KY is 35% on the fronts, 18% on the rears and back window, and it says tint is allowed on the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line, whatever that means. I imagine you can get away with much lower than the legal limit, but mine is 5% all around and being that I've been pulled over twice for it, I probably need to change it.

What about:

70% windshield

30% fronts

20% rears/back?

I've seen a few Mustang GT convertibles with windshield tint and it looked awesome with the top down. My top doesn't come down (it comes up haha), but it would still look nice. I don't wanna do a big difference on the fronts and rears since a noticeable difference between the two looks silly, IMO. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and BTW we changed spring seats and the squeaking did not go away. The handling was slightly better, but I think my right motor mount is blown...now I just gotta check it.

35% front and rear

That looks REALLY good. I'm actually not too upset about changing it. I can't see jack **** out the front sides at night. I just don't wanna pay the ticket. I could swear someone on here recommended a light tint on the windshield though.

I'm sure front tint has been recommended. It certainly looks good, but you seem to want to get away from the attention you're getting from the police. Definitely ditch the tint and anything around 20-35% all around will look good.

I actually want to get the tint removed from the other two cars and get them done the same as mine but that will take some time since it runs around

$300 per car <_<

just part another car or two and you will have the money

Maybe there's someone who'd like to buy you're already tinted windows to offset the cost? (and trade their untinted glass to you)

I got quoted at $190 for my car, 300 seems a bit steep (unless your other rides are an SUV and a minivan or something...)

Still trying to decide if I'm gonna get tint, especially after my friend backing out of a buddies driveway tonight and not seeing a dodge ram because of his dark tint and messing up his car (Audi A4, who cares, everyone and their mother drives one)

I wonder why they charge more? Maybe it has something to do with those extra two windows in the back ;) Kinda like station wagons have.

Still, $300 is a bit on the high side.

Look on the edges of the windshield, there should be a small arrow that is labeled AS1. It usually marks the boundary of the factory sun strip (if you windshield has one) and you cannot tint further down that that line.
