Difference Between Two Front Engine Mounts

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I am in need of changing out my worn front engine mount. There are two mounts available one made for cars with 280mm rotors and one made for cars with 302mm rotors. as far as I can tell, the oly difference between the two mounts is the stiffness of the rubber and the cost - about $60.00 more for the one made for 302 mm rotors. I just upgraded my car to 302's, So do I have to get the more expensive mount?

Although I could be wrong, I didnt think it had anything to do with what brakes you have? When I bought one it was done by my VIN. I actually ordered the wrong one, and it didnt fit at all. I would call FCP and give them your VIN and see what they say.

I agree with Oreo. It should not make any difference. BUT buy the Volvo one even though it is a lot more. I studied both pieces. They are not the same quality rubber/make at all.

Razor, if only your comment had come a bit earlier. As it turns out, the only difference between the two is the fact that one is oem and one is aftermarket with the OEM having slightly stiffer rubber. I did not think it was worth THREE times as much money so I got the aftermarket from FCP. - Hope it wasn't too big a mistake.

I replaced mine with after-market the first time. I am now, 1 yr later, replacing it with OEM from stealership. It's been ripped for 2 months , at least. Keep putting the cheap one in and you will by 3 of them, plus replacement time. Get tho oem and save your self the hassle. Plus every time that mount goes, it puts more strainn on other mounts, tranny and axles/ cv joints. Engine jumps around a little bit , ya know what I mean?

Nah, you'll be fine. I've used both. The aftermarket one has worse vibration isolation and does not last as long if you have oil leaking on it.
